Oh, wow!! Let her know I am REALLY impressed :) These are amazing! Very nice details and I love the depth and layering of colors. I think doing portraits is pretty difficult, and she's pulled both off nicely. I love the far-off gaze in the top one too.
ReplyDeleteIs this a favorite medium of hers? I've never worked with pastels, so I don't think I could offer much advice in that respect. The only thing I would say is where the hair falls on the shirt (top)it might look nice to add a little more of a shadow. I hesitate to even say that without seeing it in person, but in the end it doesn't matter what I say ~ it's her piece. I am SO glad you shared these :) Thank you both!

ReplyDeleteToday I'm off to my mom's birthday tea. We have been doing this for close to 15 years. All the sisters and sister-in-laws (10 in total) get together and we bring fresh-baked treats, brunch casseroles, etc to have with tea and coffee.
Wow, what a great tradition for the girls :) A birthday tea... just thinking of it makes me smile!!

ReplyDeleteMelissa appreciated your suggestions and yes, she loves working with chalk pastel although she enjoys acrylic paints as well. I don't think she has much luck with water-color. It seems difficult, which makes your art all the more admirable.
