Forever and Ever, Amen

The power is His Majesty
That metes the miracle
The glory is the part we see
That makes Him visible

The kings and kingdoms of this world
Exist for numbered days
God’s power and glory unfurled
Abides with us always
Amen.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Matt 6:13

Strange But True

As I was reading from Matthew,
Esp. the Sermon on the Mount (ch.5,6&7)
I tried to picture what it must have been like for these people to hear Jesus' words,
so foreign to the jot and tittle of Law they followed/feared!

How strange, the words they heard Him speak,
When struck, to turn the other cheek
When robbed, give more on top of that
And do not ask to have it back

How strange the words they heard Him say
To love your enemies and pray
To help the poor, but secretly
Not so other people might see

How strange, the words this Teacher said
He called Himself the Living Bread
The one who hates, a murderer
The one who lusts, adulterer

How strange the words where crowds amassed
To hear teachings by law surpassed
Do not seek vengeance, but forgive
And you must lose your life to live

How strange the words they heard Him tell
Broad is the road that leads to Hell
The narrow road, so few will find
To those who persecute, be kind

How true the words they heard Him preach
From miles they came to hear him teach
Of love beyond Law’s ordered ways
Of Temple rebuilt in three days

How strange, the words He said to them
As true today as it was then
But so few seem to care today
For words that never pass away

Pondering Principle

I had begun another train of thought for today's poem until a sobering conversation with Matt about 'planned parenthood' derailed it for now...

When you verbalize, word for word, the graphic acts that 'planned parenthood' entails it is as vicious an act, as the most heinous terrorist could claim, and its to babies!

Jesus replied, "You are mistaken because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
Matt.22:29

No truly humble and obedient person will say
"I want my own way"

When we reject the principle of love’s matrix that God ordained
When we embrace depravity of human nature unrestrained
When we no longer bear in mind how humankind to God will bow
How can we think that God should wink at sin and still bless us somehow?

When His Word, truly wise and good is disregarded for world’s pelf
When minds are dark with what they do not even know they do not know
How can we still, dead to God’s will, shake fists at He who loves us so?

How, in a world so vile and churlish to humble obedience
Can we expect, (if we reject Jesus) mercy’s deliverance?
Then there can be no better days ahead if we have turned away
From He whose perfect Word abides and praise Him, has the final say

 Sober up as you ought, and stop sinning;
for some of you are ignorant of God.
I say this to your shame.
1 Cor.15:34

"They bend their tongue like their bow;
Lies and not truth prevail in the land;
For they proceed from evil to evil,
And they do not know Me," declares the LORD.
Jer.9:3

Truth Undeterred

Heaven and earth will pass away,
but my words will not pass away.
Matt 24:35

Dear, when in doubt
Don’t look about
And ask some passer for a thought
For age to age
From sacred page
The wise of this world
Have been taught

Though time may change
And rearrange
The things that meet the roving eye
Never God’s Word
Truth, undeterred
The Holy Bible
Does not lie

Pick up that Book
And take a look
Lest after all small races won
We miss The Way
The only Way
That leads to life
When life is done

Dear, when in doubt
Don’t look about
For answers from earth’s roaring crowd
Pick up The Book
And take a look
To find hope’s peace
From Holy God

This week, on more than one occasion I was confronted with remarks like 'if there is a God' and 'if there is a hereafter'!

One cannot force faith.
In the words of St. Thomas Aquinas...

“To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary.

To one without faith, no explanation is possible.”

…and asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him.
and the surpassing greatness of His power to us who believe.

Ephes.1:17-19
