Of Intangible Imprints

It's peach and blueberry season. yay(two of my all-time food favs!)
But even with peaches and blueberries we need to practice moderation
(unless we enjoy an old-fashioned stomach-ache...believe me. I know this to be true!😏)

Since My Scare a few weeks ago I have not touched cold cereal but returned to
the safety of oatmeal 'mush' with fresh fruit, ground flax seed and a drizzle of maple-syrup!
YUM!!!

Press well your barefoot paperweight
On pages printed with soon-past
Where morning flings ajar its gate
And ushers in the ‘break of fast’
Where peaches drip and blossoms slip
From buds that cannot clench the wreath
Hoisted to bloom a little bit
Before it strews the dust beneath
Where what we hold is like a flow’r
Soon kissing pages dripped with peach
As the impressions of an hour
Scatter imprints beyond our reach

Life's Laurels

I have one daughter who on more than one occasion has commented to me, ‘how can you stand it! (My life)’
She looks at me and thinks ‘what have you ever really done , and how do you still get excited about it?!”
If we are blessed, life grants a holy repetition of that which we are called to…I don’t always get excited about the idea of more laundry or cleaning etc. But the Love that gives life meaning excites me every time.

I love this quote by Eric Liddel:
“In the dust of defeat as well as the laurels of victory there is a glory to be found if one has done his best.”

If one has done one’s best, my friend,
Regardless of the dividend
Then time is not some hapless falling
As each creature care we tend
But a most high and holy calling
To an intermediate end

…for at the end of days, my dear
Begins what we should full revere
The very cause of all we do
Will in that sacred Then appear
Thus by this fact we ought to view
Time’s mission with love’s moral fear

Then, if we do the best we can
To serve, not self, but fellowman
By this we serve our God who gave
Each one a purpose in His plan
For we are all servant or slave
The grave but death’s dust-charlatan

Today's 'best' includes preserving peaches:)!

Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 2 Cor. 5:10

Peaches on my Mind

Like the nectar of peach
Let it run from my chin
A smile on my taste buds
Sweet satisfaction
May I savor each morsel
And not waste one drip
Of this beautiful moment
On my fingertip

***

Peach-coral dawn climbs into the blue
Mist-laden valleys don a silver-pink hue
Breath-taking mercy swings wide morning’s gate
Lessons of faith and forgiveness a-wait
Trust in the Lord, His love does not fail
Soon the dark night will again draw its veil
And dusk will descend in a peach-coral sea
One day nearer to eternity

***

I’m thinking the fruit
That hung within Eve’s reach
To tempt her so
Was a sun-warmed peach

***

Soon the peach sweetness of summer will fade
I sense a dusky-blue gaze
Whispering in the willow-wind shade
Lingering in deep, late-day haze
Hints of departure rush to the shore
Of late summer’s less crowded beach
I sense the creaking of a door
Still somewhere beyond our reach
Summer will last a few hours more
I savor another peach

Yesterday was 'beach day'...
Today it is 'peach day'!
Tomorrow...who knows, but One!
