Grace-berth/Birth

Yesterday's sunrise

So often so little distance seems to lie between dawn and dusk, doesn't it?!!

Yesterday's sunset

Days seem to fly by!
So does life!!
Just a blip between the dawn of birth and the dusk of death!
(two visitations this week for friend's parents were a vivid reminder!!)
...and not one of us can see how near that Dusk is!
It can fall in the twinkle of an eye to young or old alike!
Thus, often much of life's focus seems to be
on making every effort to 'Make (fond) Memories'
which really are precious!

...like picking pussy willows 😊

Canning sausage

Spending time with (aging) more precious-than-ever parents...

Because there are 10 children in our family, for mom and dad's Christmas gift
this year, each child is given a month to extra-bless them
(not counting December (Christmas) and September
when we hope to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary all together)
March was our month.
On Saturday we took them to my brother-in-law's sugar bush
 to watch modern-day maple-syrup making...

...and then we dropped by my mother-in-law's house where my sister-in-law served us supper;
the best bean soup I ever tasted served with Vidalia onions,
summer-sausage, fresh bread and cheese! A five-star meal!!)

...but, as dear as these memories are there is something
far more sacred in life to make, than memories...
We are called to 'make every effort' for something far more lasting!

2 Pet.1:3-10
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life
through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises,
so that through them you may participate in the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness
and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control;
and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
7and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.
8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure,
they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive
in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind,
forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
10Therefore, my brothers and sisters
a make every effort to confirm your calling and election.
For if you do these things, you will never stumble,
11and you will receive a rich welcome
into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In light of this, Awareness beckons us behold today with
more thankful, thoughtful, sacred soul-searching!

Behold the berth/birth where God’s grace is extended
Where Life runs rife with holy beck and call
Daylight dissolves heaven’s star-studded blanket
From mercy’s fount hope-forged stepping-stones fall
From He whose love cannot be comprehended
Today is bestowed by God, to one and all

Though want and woe’s what and wherefore may vary
Though no two roads of life are quite the same
No matter what composes cares we carry
Rest and redemption are found in One Name
For the deathless soul, none can burn or bury
Jesus, the Way, Truth and Life all may claim

Today is a common-ground charge, all must weather
Like a barge drawn over sky, sea and sod
Where soon the Harbour at Twilight will tether
Some to the slumber that morning will prod
Some through a gate that parts, light as feather
Over that last lowered gangway to God

Who can afford to be calloused and careless
When no one knows where time’s curtain will close
Pity the passenger, faithless and prayerless
Unready for what Last Breath will expose
Come, bid Today reawakens awareness
To behold berths/birth where God’s grace overflows

So off we go on a new Today!
How many remain,

Let It Be...(an easier-said-than-done-outpouring)

This weekend Grandsonny and granddaughter
experienced the joy of lending a helping hand...
(work before play 😄)
and reaping some delightful rewards!

...the happiness of Maple-taffy-cone sweet thank-yous
Where can you get a sweet thank-you treat too?!! Here!

...the thrill of a ride in Grandpa's big truck

We are all children in a sense, earning a recompense of reward...

My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue,
but in deed and in truth.

After a few recent devotions and yesterday's message
I have once again been soundly challenged
to weigh my love in the scales of His Word and choices I make
to see if my love for God and fellowman is found wanting!

Lord, let it be Thy love for me that satisfies my want and need
Lord, let it be my love for Thee that shines Thy light in word and deed
Lord, let the witness of Thy love be more than Sunday morning rite
Lord, let the fruit of the tree prove Thy love to be my chief delight

Lord, let it be my faith in Thee (not what I see) that keeps me strong
And let my humble honor be to help a fellowman along
And let my joy forever spring from a Fount that cannot run dry
Thy love, Lord exceeds everything that my thought attempts to descry

Lord, let it be Thy love for me that crowns the motive of my will
And let the light of Thy love be like a city set on a hill
Lord, let goodness and mercy be a messenger in hands and feet
Thy love for me, my love for Thee to make life’s journey to Thee sweet

Lord, let it be my hope in Thee that reminds me how great thou art
Remind me of love’s sympathy that broke Thy body and Thy heart
Then, as I see Thy love for me let nothing hide Thy lovely face
The backdrop of a bloodstained tree, forbid, some lesser loves replace

Lord, though the storms of life increase, Lord bid the demons of dread flee
For thou wilt keep in perfect peace, the mind that is transfixed on Thee
And let it be Thy love for me that grants the courage to proceed
And let it be my love for Thee that helps a fellowman in need

No one can help everyone but we who are blessed to have
can all help someone who does not have!!

First Harvest of the Year...Maple Gold (and a word about Winding Road Maple Products)

Today I visited my brother-in law to congratulate him and his business-partner, a cousin-in-law, on winning the award for Best-tasting Maple syrup in Woolwich Township. It really is The Best. I find myself sneaking a little nip from the jug now and then;-) because it so syrupy and sweet and maple-perfect!

Paul Martin(left) and Dale Martin (middle) own and operate Winding Road Maple Products
Follow link to read more on the details of who-what-where-when and so forth.
Not only is their product top-notch, so is the setting, nestled in among winding roads in rural serenity. Please use the 'how to buy' info to find out how you can taste this healthy Maple Goodness for yourself.

The blue lines you see are the lines through which the sap runs, replacing the traditional method of tapping with buckets(not as nostalgic but far more efficient), allowing producers to increase the number of trees tapped and then the volume of sap gathered to boil into syrup...don't worry! Tapping a healthy tree will not hurt it.
 Warmer temperatures turn sap too dark, so the process of boiling it into syrup is over for this year but they are working at 'canning' it now;

... putting it into containers and sealing it, readying it for retail.

Some of their product

Down country lane and winding road
Through thawing winter-wood retreat
The first harvest of every year
Is drip-drip-dripping, slow and sweet

Before the dog-tooth violet flaunts
Its dappled leaf in haunts of green
Before Jack takes his pulpit and
Gold prim-rose dots the meadow-stream

A spring-crop gleams, not from the field
Still barely waking from its rest
But from the maple-limb, a hymn
Of drip-drip-dripping harvest best

For every sugar maple-tree
Is like a vault of amber-gold
Within the dark of bark a sea
Of sweetness trembles in its hold

Then, just before the world turns green
After winter eases its grip
In that brief, gladsome in-between
We glean its maple drip-drip-drip

For pancakes, fritters, donuts, toast,
Popcorn and ice-cream, oatmeal,yum
Maple syrup is spring's sweet boast
Come on now, won't you sample some?
