I Need More Than Luck

PAD Challenge 13: Two-for-Tuesday
For this Two-for-Tuesday prompt:
Write a lucky poem and/or...
Write an unlucky poem.

Abide With Me-Audrey Assad

I do not bank on luck
To charm what waits to be
Luck offers no assurance or
Accountability

Luck leaves no one to thank
Stars cannot see or hear
But by the grace of God go I
Through thick and thin, my dear

For when this life is through
(Death is no lottery)
I need more than luck to cling to
To face eternity

No lucky gal am I
But I am blessed indeed
By He who grants far more than chance
To minister to need

Instead, you ought to say,
“If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
James 4:15

I Don't Believe in Luck

Playing a bit of catch-up on Writer's Digest's Poem-a-day prompts.
This was prompt 13: Write a luck poem
(still unable to log in to their site.
Nothing works. not reset saved passwords. Nothing)

"I believe in the One who steals our breath with majesty
His handiwork second to none on sod and sky and sea"

I don’t believe in four-leaf-clovers, charms like rabbit’s feet
Or leaves of tea or stars aligned or fate or Easy Street
Or roll of dice or pennies tossed into a wishing well
I believe what must be will be and time enough will tell

I believe in discretion, common sense and honesty
That by the grace of God we go and ought to revere He
Who grants the chance to choose this day who we will honour best
I believe we should watch and pray and trust Him for the rest

He knows the very numbers of the hairs upon our head
No matter what naysayers say we know God is not dead
I don't believe in horseshoes or in the luck of the draw
I believe in the kindly keep of  He whose love is law

I believe in the One who steals our breath with Majesty
His handiwork second to none on sod and sky and sea
I don't believe in luck; the gamble of all it entails
I believe in the grace of God whose goodness never fails

Glorify the Lord with me;
let us exalt his name together...

Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Psalm 34:3&8-10

As Lu// God Would Have It

Catching up on prompts for the poem-a-day challenge:) Busy weekend.
Day 11: For today’s prompt, write an unlucky poem.
Whether you believe in luck or not,
you can still write a poem about a situation that others might deem unlucky.

"Oh, lucky you", we sigh,
moved by the bit
that eyes behold
While skin can veil a world of scarred
halls marked
with stories
never told

Unlucky you, we wail
moved by the
scale of circumstance
Still, always at the
mercy of
Love's Blessing-laden
nail-scarred Hands

Lucky Girl...(or but-by-the-grace-of-God-girl)

The reason I like to try to write to prompts is because 'writing to order' can be quite a challenge. Yesterday's Poetic Bloomings prompt was called Potluck.
Choose any form we enjoy and write about luck.

Walt (from Poetic Bloomings) called me Lucky Girl yesterday, so I typed the title
And hoped he was right;-)

Better late than never…

I find it utterly astounding how a lawn, completely dead-seeming can turn lush and green after a few
drenching rains...it's a great metaphor of what happens as we respond to the touch of God.

Lucky Girl

Across the return of spring-like green, surreal
After the laughter of warm August rain
The poet gazes and spins thought’s word-wheel
Willing the whisper of Muse to her brain

Sweet summer morning, unravel a poem
Revive her blight-stricken, heat-smitten mind
Blind her to the kinder duties of home
Where sometimes Poem is so hard to find

Grant this Canuck a bit of Irish luck
Charm Time’s fresh offspring with iambic smile
Humor her hunger with rhymes that don’t suck
Let her be a Lucky Girl for a while

(this poem is written strictly for the prompt because I prefer the word grace.
Luck is such a hopeless word)

Form: Quatrain

Poetry Definition of Quatrain

A stanza or poem consisting of four lines. In the basic form, Lines 2 and 4 must rhyme while having a similar number of syllables.

If I Were Lucky...

PAD Challenge day 14: Write an 'If I Were...' poem

If I were lucky I'd win lotteries
and draws and bets and wishes on  a star
Each four-leaf clover, stack of cards the means
To dinners with champagne and caviar

If I were lucky I'd take every chance
Without a care or second thought to need
Thirteen would be a god and I would dance
Against the odds with Lady Luck to lead

I don't believe in luck or chance or fate
The stars do not align just right for me
And often all that I can do is wait
And work and wonder at God's will for me

If I were lucky that were second best
Each day I'm awed to know that I am blessed
