Love's Sweet Assurance

I enjoy watching golf, partly because it's so easy
to get emotionally connected to the highs and lows
of those little white balls and the drivers behind them...
I also find so many metaphors for life in the game
with its challenging courses,
the exhilaration of an eagle,
and the frustration of the bogie

What a competition it was last week
for all who participated in the Players Championship
finally completed on Monday!

And of course, tears at both ends of the emotional spectrum;
Anhirban Lahiri's tears of disappointment in loss...

and Cameron Smith's tears of joy in victory!

(Big hug from mom)

Cameron Smith, when interviewed, told reporters that the
joy of the win is secondary to the joy of being able to see
his mom and sister face to face for the first time in two years
due to covid restrictions.(he now lives in Florida)

(smiles and tears from girlfriend, sister and mother)

His mother and sister flew in from Australia a few hours earlier
to share what turned out to be a celebration with the Champion!
Isn't it wonderful to have love's sweet assurance no matter
what the results of a day's effort brings?
Love shares in both highs and lows of life💓💔

Here's to all our personal 'Sawgrass 17th holes

We are all in a Challenge with very grave stakes...
Imagine if we put the time and passion/effort into training like top athletes do!
And for the victor, oh the joy of that face to face meeting at last!

This life of highs and lows composes opportunity
To help us stop to smell the roses midst adversity
To let our words and meditation honor He who grants
His gift of grace, salvation, to the sinner who repents

This life of hope and heartache is a course of down-and-up
One copes with loss and heartbreak while one hoists the winner’s cup
But all of us are equal in the eyes of He who holds
Soul’s very sacred sequel to Time’s very temp’ral molds

This life of want and wonder thunders with faith’s wait-and-see
Time’s little haunt of hunger harbours immortality
Where the gift of salvation is no temporary prize
But seals our vindication through Lamb’s blood that justifies

This life of Good misunderstood and dreams never come true
Could drive us to despair and would faith’s quest for Best undo
Without love's sweet assurance proclaimed by Jesus, our Lord
All who run with endurance will receive Endless Reward

Heb.12:1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
2fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
For the joy set before him he endured the cross,
scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners,
so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Autumn-dreamer's Dirge

Compared to last Monday's mad dash to get the yard, driveway, garage and rain-gutters
cleared of leaves that fell at inevitable last

...this Monday feels like a soft, white sigh...(but oh, what an ocean-surge a sigh can hold:)

Gone, the green-some chatter
Of the leafy tress
Tapestry of tatters, love
Tucked beneath whiteness

Gone the gloomy bearing
Of the tree-line doffed
Naked branches wearing, love's
Whispers white and soft

Gone, dusk’s musky, mellow
Lisping lullaby
Farewell turns to hello, love
Falling from the sky

Gone, the flowered garden
Filled with colors bright
Winter’s wizened Artisan
Chooses white on white

Gone, the yawning pleasure
Of a sun-drenched chair
Vault of ice-white treasure, love
Sparkles everywhere

Gone, the tide of tatters
Strewing yards and streets
Summer’s sigh and chatter, love
Sleeps beneath white sheets

Of New Throughway

November PAD Challenge begins! For today’s prompt, write a new day poem.
okay, I wrote the above line yesterday but
its New joined to age-old throngs, before I could get to the prompt!
So, a day later a new, New Today offers up its page of grace,
...for some it will be a stage for celebration

...for others a page bearing tears of disappointment
(no words needed)

Ah, laid beneath delinquent feet
Yon sweep of star-deep pales until
Redemption’s carpet gilds the street
And tints colorless field and hill

We, bonded to the old turn to
The New Today that time deploys
Where time insists upon its due
And runs it through with sorrow-joys

Earth’s boulevard, starred with the tears
Of grief and laughter’s testament
Hinges to scads of yester-years
A sphere of unmarred filament

Ah, here and now offers a dance
On tides where heavens ebb and flow
And dark relents to grant new chance
To prove the gratitude we owe

Human Race...

The race is on; the finish line
Is a place no one can define
Yet all of us, foolish and wise

The race is on; not all will win
Or hear that wondrous ‘enter in
The Prize that waits; let none deceive

Then let us try, earnest and wise
So when the finish line is plain
We did not run life’s race in vain

For Players in the Game of Baseball or Life

Matt enjoyed a never-forget-it-as-long-as-I-live night at the Sky-dome to watch the Blue-jays try to sweep the series against the Texas Rangers.
He said there was a consistent eager hum of excitement in the crowd,
but when Donaldson slid across the home-plate clinching the extra-innings win the place erupted into a beyond-words noise-level of celebration!

Sometimes in life's
Swing and miss,
slip, trip and sprawl
Fumble a pop-fly,
or
get hit by a ball

...sometimes in life's
extra innings
before loss
Or new-season beginnings
after
a bat-toss

...sometimes in life's
hurt and dirt
Had a bad day
Bases-loaded
grounder
then a double play

Sometimes in life's game of
Hope, hit,
work hard,
fall
We meet with moments
that make it
Worth it all

But 'How'...

If you don't watch golf then the name Jordan Spieth is simply another name,
but to those who do, yesterday's stunning finale will never be forgotten!
Trying to come to grips with what just happened...

It’s not so much the ‘if’ we lose
But ‘how’ that shapes the ‘who’
That we become after the humb-
-ling hurt of it is through

It’s not so much the ‘what’ of it
That dictates happiness
But how we use the Now of it
That steals or deals success

God does not call us to success, but to faithfulness~
