Happiness of May

The hill that long wore brown and sage
And shrouds of winter-cold
Is clothed in vernal accolades
And dandelion-gold

...and where the world was tightly curled
In a cocoon, pearl-white
A lovely color-throng unfurls
Legions winged with delight

The field that waited while the clock
Tick-tocked from fall to spring
Becomes a wonderland unlock
-ing gifts fit for a king

The back-road barred by ice and snow
Is now a thoroughfare
Of pretty maids all in a row
With blossoms in their hair

...where every orchard bower-tress
That long wore scraggly gray
Is ravished with a flower-dress
And happiness of May

  1. I love the winter and spring photos, and your description of the trees, "pretty maids all in a row, with blossoms in their hair." There's a huge crabapple tree in my front yard, close enough to observe. We've enjoyed watching the seasonal transformation... the kids will sometimes be the ones to notice the first hint of green in the spring, or when the leaves have started to fall. It plays a big part in the change of seasons for me.

    1. Don't you just love when the next generation notices and appreciates nature in its endless change?! The blooming-tree season is so stunning and quick.(metaphor intended;-)

Thank-you so much for your visit:)

    2. It is nice to see them caring about nature, and making their own observations. Another thing we do is have a playful contest every spring to see who can spot the first robin... Olivia won this year... and it was in the crabapple :)
