Sure are a lot of opinions flying about these days
enough to 'ferhoodle'/bemuddle the best of minds
if we are ignorant or indifferent to what God says!
a brief flare of sunshine before clouds and rain
maintained the weather forecaster's credibility😊
For the word of God is living and powerful,
and sharper than any
two-edged sword,
piercing even to the division of soul and spirit,
and
of joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of
the heart.
Heb.4:12
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness
through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises,
so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature,
now that you have escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
2 Peter 1:3-4
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness
through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises,
so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature,
now that you have escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
2 Peter 1:3-4
Then bid we of lowly estate embraced by Love Supreme
Take up the holy cross of faith with reverent esteem
Though round about, ah, we would doubt, if sight was our
guide
And we would fail without A Faultless Compass to preside
Where God so gave the world his Word for both elder and
youth
So more than opinion will ground and root us in the Truth
The logic of the mind is tainted by what it perceives
If man’s knowledge is unacquainted with God, it deceives
Pity prideful misunderstanding of love without flaw
Where man’s erring comprehension cannot grasp its Perfect
Law
Oh, Holy, holy, holy, God anoints the earth with rain
As lowly, lowly, lowly mankind drinks and drinks again
His cup of mercy overflows, nursing this dying breed
Love’s nail-and thorn-scarred grace bestows the flower to
the seed
Where need is mankind’s common ground no matter who or
where
And no one is too fit or fine without His Word and prayer
Where sun and rain maintains the garden, field and orchard
slope
And Fellowship with God maintains the faith that
maintains hope
…then bid we of lowly estate embraced by Love Supreme
Do nothing for
empty conceit but most humbly esteem
The value of each other as Love’s most entrusted Charge
Before we reach the Shore where Soul disembarks from its
barge
Where God so loved the world He gave His word to show the
way
And anchor us ‘midst the confusion of what people say

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit,
but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
Phil.2:3
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.
Prov.3:7
He answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all
your soul
and with all your strength
and with all your mind';
and, 'Love
your neighbor as yourself.'"
Luke 10:27
Hi Janet,
ReplyDeleteI found your poetry site only yesterday. I like to say that I enjoyed reading this poem, and which is really a "poem", and a good one at that! This is a refreshing change, when looking at modern and so-called "poetry", if you know what I mean! It seems rare to find someone who can really write poetry or good poetry at all these days, so it was refreshing to find someone who observes meter, and counts syllables! I counted them here, as this one called, "Anchor Midst Confusion", has 14 syllables per line.
I want to encourage you in saying that this is a fine and well thought out poem. But I wanted to ask you specifically, what you mean by the words, "the flower to the seed". I think you had something specific in mind by the metaphor of "flower", but I'd like to know specifically what that is. I am not suggesting your poem is unclear, because it is clear and well thought out; however, I'd like to interpret it exactly right.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Richard Paulson.
P.S. I have written an email to you about my own poetry, showing you where you can find some of my poetry. I hope you will take the time to read what God has given me, and also be blessed!
Richard, thank-you so much! I am touched by your thoughtful comment! in the phrase flower to the seed I was thinking about how it is not man but God's grace that bestows the bloom(springtime here in Canada:)!Man cannot do it. Also, His grace brings the flower/true bloom to the us when we believe. I checked out your blog and will get back to you when I have had some time to read it without interruption! thank-you for the interest in noticing rhyme and meter and while I know it is out-dated I do put a lot of thought and effort into the art which I am always striving to better in my writing! I like the challenge of working at something in form without sacrificing message!
DeleteJanet, I am glad you were touched by my comment, and I am happy to share. Thanks for that explanation. That makes perfect sense and is an excellent image. The knowledge of the cross of Christ gives us life (the flower/true bloom being us coming alive spiritually). I see the "seed" is God's perfect nature already within us, but which doesn't "bloom" or come alive/flower until we know Jesus Christ. (See the word "seed" in 1 John 3:9 King James Bible)
ReplyDeleteI thought you'd be pleased for someone to notice your rhyme and meter, because of the lack of esteem for true poetry these days. I say "true" poetry, because for people to tell you that rhyme and meter is outdated is the same as them saying "poetry" is outdated! A lot of people are claiming that anything is a poem these days.
For them,
so long
as I arrange
the words
like this,
it is therefore
a poem.
Whereas it could be just a work of prose, if I keep writing like this. So I'd like to encourage you to keep seeking for the best that poetry can possibly be, and never settle for anything less than what is both meaningful and aesthetically appealing. Seeking to write good and great poetry is like treasure hunting. Properly, it is a desire to encapsulate truth in the most beautiful form of words possible.
I look forward to hearing from you regarding what I have written in poetry. The poems I have recently published online are among my deepest thoughts and revelations of truth, and which are not properly/truly revealed or understood in today's world of "confusion", but which can all be proved true in the Bible. If you have any questions about anything I have written also don't hesitate to ask me, because I feel some things would seem mysterious or difficult to understand/believe. But God has recently gotten me to publish my poetry to share that knowledge and beauty with whoever is open to the truth.
God bless you.
Hello, I couldn't help but chuckle at your 'arrangement of words' that some call poetry in today's world! SO true! not all poetic writing is a poem, just as not everything that rhymes is poetry! I e-mailed you after reading some of your work!
DeleteWell done!
God bless you as we continue to 'seek treasure' by His grace and for His glory!
Thanks Janet! When you said, "not everything that rhymes is poetry", I thought of the "Song of Songs", which is Solomon's. I don't know what it sounds like in Hebrew, but I reckon the language has rhythm in that tongue. But the richness of imagery, metaphors, similes and its allegorical meaning make it a great poem. It was also profoundly inspired by God. And it has been set for eternity as the greatest poem ever written on earth! King Solomon symbolizes Christ, and the Shulamite symbolizes the bride of Christ (that includes us)! Wondrous, wondrous, wondrous words. One might think how this greatest poem ever written inspired by God could seem to be "only" an "intimate romance" between a man and a woman. However, God is a deep feeling romantic! He is a God of passionate feeling. That's where poetry is born - in the furnace of emotion centered on truth and beauty. Here I am going on... hope you like the thoughts.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I will take the time to look at more of your poems in future.
Enjoyed your thoughts! Your perspective is profound. and I esp. love this... ' That's where poetry is born - in the furnace of emotion centered on truth and beauty.!' very well put! thank-you for sharing.:)
