Mother To Mother

We don’t count
Or talk about
Sacrifices that we make
Knowing not long before
Someone
Made them
For our sake

We don’t dwell on Heart-hollows
Where days
Fill with life's fuss
Reminding us
Of someone else
Who kindly
Lived for us

We wear with humble reverence
The word
Our mothers wore
While learning
The full meaning
Of the name
She bravely bore

  1. What a great old hymn you found!
Thank you for penning such true perspective from your heart. At different stages in my adult life, I've thought of what my mother's life included at that same age. This reflection always left me amazed anew at how graciously (overall!) she raised seven of us of varying temperaments.
Blessings to you on this Mother's Day!

    1. It's amazing isn't it, how they nurtured and mentored large families, never seeking praise!
That hymn is one learned in my childhood and I love it!

Happy Mother's Day to you too!

  2. Janet - enjoyed your poem, the hymn, and the comments exchanged. We would not 'be' if not for our Mom. (or Mum or Mother)
