Happy Birthday Victoria

Joy has many forms and faces

This, I know is true

But I am so thankful for

The joy I know as

You

May you continue to be
The beautiful you
You are
For in the crown of life’s sweet joys
You are a
Shining
Star!

From Victoria's family

Victoria will remember her 14th Birthday as the day she played Anne in her School Musical.

 That's Anne with an 'e'

"Oh Matthew, I've had so many dreams but this is the first one that's coming true!"

"You will have to send me back to the orphanage because I will never apologize to Mrs. Lynde!"
"Anne, don't you think you could find a way to just kinda apologize? but don't tell Marilla I suggested it."

'Anne's' birthday-cake choice; Nutella Cheesecake
We found the recipe here

Ingredients:
10 oz (280 g) graham crackers (digestive biscuits)
5 tablespoons soft unsalted butter
1 13-oz jar Nutella (at room temperature)
¾ cup chopped toasted hazelnuts
1 lb (450 g) cream cheese (at room temperature)
½ cup confectioners’ sugar (sifted)
Method:
Break the graham crackers (digestives) into the bowl of a processor, add the butter and 15 ml or 1 tablespoon of Nutella, and blitz until it starts to clump. Add 25g/3 tablespoons of the hazelnuts and continue to pulse until you have a damp, sandy mixture.
Tip into a 23 cm/9-inch round springform and press into the base either using your hands or the back of a spoon. Place in the fridge to chill.
Beat the cream cheese and confectioners’ sugar until smooth and then add the remaining Nutella to the cream cheese mixture, and continue beating until combined.
Take the springform out of the fridge and carefully smooth the Nutella mixture over the base. Scatter the remaining chopped hazelnuts on top to cover and place the tin in the fridge for at least four hours or overnight. Serve straight from the fridge for best results.

Time's Song

The formal clock with tick-and tock still takes one by surprise
The old-time sun with mapped rerun still stuns the poet’s sighs
The ancient rays of time’s todays teaches old ways anew
Where none can keep the wonder-weep from yonder deep’s adieu

Darling, the farthing of an hour gathers in its wake
The greeting and the parting of love’s longing give and take
The heart cradles an art collection; who but us can see
The tincture of the pictures we hang in its gallery?

Adept denominator, operator smooth and sleek
Oh, cardinal of mortals, monumental moment-sweep
You kiss the brow of Here and Now with sorrow-joy’s freefall
And fill the rill of Past’s foothill with echoed madrigal

Time’s stumble-grumble-fumble keeps us humble as we go
But by God’s grace, this human race drinks mercy’s overflow
For none can hold the moment-gold of tick and tock for long
Save in the brave renewal and perusal of Time’s song

Of Memory-shapes

These are the days by which years disappear
Breath-breadth battalion tick-tocks commandeer
Through blue-eyed summers and winter-white-scapes
Fixed panorama of memory shapes

Past-soldered bastion, how doth thy hold swell?
Ever the ingress of moment-farewell
No thief can enter nor trespasser stray
Where life-lost legions wisp-whisper away

Good-night, good-morning and good-afternoon
Girls become women somehow in this tune
While women wonder just how it can be
Time turns its pages so inaudibly

Break my heart gently, oh traitor, be kind
Help me to love without fearing good-bye
For none can still the hand clocks commandeer
Shaping the hour soft-shaping a year

We had a long good-night hug, Victoria and I because its our last hug while she's thirteen. When she wakes up she will be fourteen.

Once-a-week

Come, kind and whistling wanderer and do not fade too fast
Ere on the palm of all-is-calm our give and take is cast
Summer-incognito, paradise and planned demand
Come, once-a-week companion, tug our toes into your sand

Now Laughter is a lark above white winter’s stormy sighs
And Worry is a glove we let slip to soft-lipped good-byes
Love’s Longing is the flavor of a long, slow cup of tea
Where Love is soft-rewarded every once-a-week by thee

Your center-folds are cereal-spilled and cinnamon-bun sweet
Your patrons are the people that fill Duty’s solemn seat
But once-a-week you tweak your expectations just a tad
And make allowances for happiness, Saturday-glad

Whether its a tea-party in the snow, a teeny shopping excursion, a new recipe or simply slow-syrupy pancakes Victoria and I try to add a 'Saturday-glad' to each one because Saturdays, after all, only come once-a-week! ;-))

Tomorrow is Today

This is the day the Lord has made;We will rejoice and be glad in it. Ps.118:24

We slept; hours crept, swept swift-slow
Straight-forward slur, soft they
Tiptoe-tumbled; and now, somehow
Tomorrow is today

Yester-today that brimmed, will-wild
No one can ever find
It slumbers where many a child
Left childhood days behind

The font of want and wish and wait
And hope and fear and dread
And faith, frames a gossamer gate
With time’s tomorrow-thread

Still, in its strange, mysterious par
Twixt dusk and dawn’s relay
Time draws through night’s wish-world of stars
From tomorrow, today
