Over and over Motherhood and 'mortal-hood'
tests our willingness to let go and let God...
Ah, love of God, so oft misunderstood
Thy rod seems harsh that works for mortal good
Beneath the weight of hope and hunger’s ways
Thy word abides to guide us all our days
Where He who bled and died upon a cross
Will test our pride to burn away the dross
To see if what we boast is but a sham
Or meek and honest trust in Thee; I AM
Beneath the cares that pain this human grail
Thy loving kindness will not wane or fail
But heals the hurts of love’s great agonies
Thy grace sufficient for the least of these
Where forgiveness that we could never earn
Lends joy to all that we are called to learn
You draw us from conceit’s suave trickery
And fill the heart with awe’s humility
Thy evidence only a fool denies
Thy Providence ministers and supplies
Thy ways exasperate man’s come and go
Thy truth and mercy none can overthrow
Thy gaze restores our faith, rebukes our fears
Thy promises and loving kindness cheers
Thy blood delivers us from debt we owe
Thy love, the gifted grace whereby we go
Ah, love of God, so oft misunderstood
Ah, vexing rod that works for mortal good
Beneath the height of hope and hunger’s need
Thy word abides to guide and intercede
Where He who paid sin’s debt upon a cross
Will sweeten heaven’s gain with earthly loss
To see if our worship is a sham
Or sacred gratitude to Thee; I AM
