Steps can be re-traced
And we can return once more
To re-visit nostalgia's hilltop
Or stand on a favored shore
But, not so in life
We cannot re-live one moment
Its prisms slip into the sky
Miles or footsteps can be retraced
To re-capture the seed of a sigh
Not so in life
Life has one clear direction
Time does not flow back
Though we pause in retrospection
To review its weathered track
…we can only keep moving forward
As moments keep slipping by
Places can be returned to again
…not so in life

“Mom, just remember” cautions Victoria without turning her head,
“as far as we go this way, we have to go back!”
I was going to take a picture of her walking when up pops her hand with a reminder for that mom who might forget things like hours and distance in the great out-doors of autumn…and then I thought ‘yes, on a trail we get to come back, re-trace our steps-not so in life’. I'm so thankful, not only on Thanksgiving Day, but every day of my life, that we serve a loving God of grace and mercy.
Isn't it amazing how children have such a sweet and simple way of keeping us in line? Love the picture too ~ perfect timing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful path to take for a walk... and your photos of the sky to the right are just gorgeous! Really enjoyed looking through them :)
On facebook I have albums of August and September sunsets with a few sunrises in there... hope I can continue to get out there when it's snowy and icy! Taking pictures of sunsets helps me appreciate the passing of time...
We are greatly blessed, aren't we? :)
I'm on face-book...a little:) when I remember. I need to learn how to use it, I think.Every time I try to make an album each picture starts a new album so obviously I am doing something wrong. I wish I had someone to bug when I need a teacher.
ReplyDeleteDo you enjoy painting the sky? I would love to be able to paint the sky and the sea!
Yes, Megan, we are greatly blessed. Have a blessed week-end!
Jim will be home tomorrow, hopefully.
I think I may be able to 'friend' you on facebook through pinterest. I'd help you figure it out :) I've actually shared some of your poetry on there, as 'Notes' ~ always giving you credit of course :) Just too good to keep to myself!
ReplyDeleteThe kids & I are excited because Chad's taking us out to the fair this evening!! Olivia can't wait to get a corn dog ;) I can think of many other things I'd rather have... but better not! My favorite thing (besides the food) is the art hall. I'm sure we'll have a nice time... supposed to be cold and windy though, so we'll be dressed warm and ducking in buildings for warmth :)
Glad to hear your husband will be back soon :) Have a blessed weekend as well!
It would be fun.
ReplyDeleteHave fun at the fair. Your weather sounds like ours;(
