Will Heaven Have July?

Oh God, I know in Heaven there will be no cause to sigh
Its wonders none can fathom where there is no ‘come to pass’
But if you could, oh, would you save a corner for July
Where lilies of the field wander a hill of wind-tossed grass?

Where dashing brooks slow to a sleepy crawl; where crickets trill
And lush hush steeps the countryside before the break of day
And could you give the bright-eyed boy the joy of fishing, still?
And somewhere let a meadow spill the smell of fresh-mown hay

And though there is no night can twilight lean its shadows where
The sun beamed bright in middle day, and can its ‘set’ be pink?
And then, because in Heaven there will be no need for prayer
Will there still be a river-bank where we can sit and think?

And watch the butterfly flit by and listen to the hymn
As soft breeze strums the leafy strings where fledglings learn to fly
God, I don’t want to seem as though I fret about such things
…but if Heaven is perfect will one corner be July?

Earth Is Not Heaven...

If this was all there was, then hope
Would be a mockery

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world."
John 16:33

Logic cannot ration Reason
It cannot explain Unseen
Earth is not a slice of heaven
But the steppingstone between

All the love we have been given
Is not immune to life’s care
Earth will never be like heaven
Just the means to getting there

This brief blip of hurt and hunger
With happiness tucked betwixt
Where nobody can grow younger
Should make us make sure of this…

With time’s what-why-how and wherefore
That its days and years allow
We should never, ever ignore
Who we should acknowledge now!

Here we beg, barter and bluster
Beneath Mercy’s loyalties
But the best that we can muster
Is a trove of memories

…where gross under-estimation
Makes us think God isn’t fair
As if somehow earth was heaven
Not its sorrow-stricken stair

 However, as it is written:
"What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived" --
the things God has prepared for those who love him--
1 Cor.2:9

I’ve heard this quote stated in a few ways…

For a believer this life is as bad as it gets
For an unbeliever this life is as good as it gets

Or,

For an unbeliever earth is as close to heaven as they will get
For a believer earth is as close to hell as they will get

But If They Could...

Sometimes we pray for miracles God does not seem to bring
We pray for health and healing for a loved one’s suffering
But in the end God deems it fit to take them from this life
While we are left to mourn the loss of child, husband or wife

…and wonder at God’s perfect way and will we’ll never know
Where “why, God, why”, wafts to the sky as loved ones miss them so
But if they could I’m sure they would from yonder portal call
And tell us Heaven is the greatest miracle of all

On Saturday at the wedding, in lieu of traditional wedding favors Jamie and Becca left this;
for so many would-have-been guests, dearly missed...

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!
For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD,
OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR?
Rom.11:33-34

 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

 Ps.139:23-24

Real Deal NOT A Fair Deal, But A Very Big Deal...and a Done Deal!

For today’s Two-for-Tuesday prompt:
  1. Write a deal poem.
  2. Write a no deal poem.

God said,
So, here’s the deal
Man’s doomed to hell
Their best works
Infested by pride
A hopeless lot
Me, oft forgot
Unless their
Comfort is denied
The curse they bear
Since Eden where
Evil dared Eve to take a bite
Then Adam too, brought, through these two a need man's sacrifice can't right
We need a Lamb, A perfect Lamb without blemish or spot, to heal
Jesus said, ‘Father, here I AM’... God said, my Beloved, so, here’s the deal...
Son, I'll send You
Faultless and true
To be the scapegoat
for My Bride
Humility
And love will be
Tortured, hated,
then crucified
So that The Lost
(though vile the cost)
May find hope through
their sins forgiven
The cross becomes
A footbridge from
the gates of hell
to the gates of Heaven
That's the deal,
Mt precious Son
Jesus replied,
