If I Had Known...#1

My apologies to you
If I had known that you would come
Then I would have changed my plans
To make sure that I was home

I would have put the coffee on
Tidied up and swept the floor
You would not even need to knock
For I’d be waiting at the door

Then we would talk all afternoon
Beneath the old red-maple tree
Time would disappear too soon
If you came to visit me

My apologies to you
If I had known that you would come
I would have gladly changed my plans
And rushed to put the coffee on...:)

While Having My Morning Coffee...




Darkness creeps languorously away from the dawn
A soft breeze wanders across the lawn
Possibilities breathe upon the air
Drawing from me, a wordless prayer

Daylight wavers on the landscapes brink
In trembling quivers of coral and pink
Somewhere past this line of view
Is another world full of people…and you

Feathered throat and green-laden tree
Merge in a rushing symphony
Arousing in me an intangible Presence
Of Power and Hope and wistful essence

Coffee is simply a minor detail
As I behold dawn’s miracle
Sheening the meadow and fading the mist
As earth’s drowsy eye-lids are heaven-kissed

Yesterday's Tomorrow


The shrill beeping of the alarm clock
Tears a merciless slash
Through thickened folds of slumber
As strong wills suddenly clash

Somewhere across days worth of miles
Others are rising too
Some with groans, some with smiles
Setting the coffee to brew

I realize, with a tug of sorrow
As I gaze at dawns awesome display
How swiftly yesterday's tomorrow
Becomes today

We stand where we have never stood before
Or ever will again
On the brink of today; I open the door
God’s love comes pouring in

Or a wind-tossed hill in Spain

A slow soft dance
Or dreams or coffee
Or a second glance
Then perhaps I would be
A whisper in
A shadow cast
A little flicker
In your past
The address in a pocket
Of a coat, not worn in years
The picture in a rusty locket
Or in sentimental tears
I would simply be
A faded memory
Someone you wish
You could see again
If I had met you

Maxwell and I


He wakes me up each morning
Much to my delight
He knows exactly what I need
And how to do it right
I’m a little sleepy
Until I feel his touch
His warmth flows into, through me
I love him oh, so much
Maxwell, you’re a darling
I keep you in a can
And see you every morning
To kiss your face of tan
Your deep and robust passion
Stirs me to the core
And I know that I cannot
Live without you anymore
You don’t have to worry
No one can take your place
I sip you and inhale you
With a smile upon my face
Maxwell, you’re a darling
I love your coat of blue
And in the early morning
No one else will do

Second Cup of Coffee



I love those special mornings when we need a second cup
Because you and I decided that we would stay up
Long after the clock had struck one a.m.
And the world lay dormant beneath heaven’s hem
As you and I strolled on the earth’s silver grasses
Immune to each ticking minute that passes
While heaven dipped low in delicate bliss
With iridescent glow of dawn’s tender kiss
We watched as the coral sun came up
And smiled as we reached for the second cup
