‘He that keeps thee
will not slumber’
While we sleep He tarries still
And His mercies far out-number
What our earth-framed thought can will
What a friend we have in Jesus
He that keeps us remains near
Holy, healing Hope appeases
Dark and death-demonic fear
Come, a new portion of hours
Waits for us where dawn ignites
Heaven’s footstool; God empowers
Us to persevere and fight
‘He that keeps us will not slumber’
What a friendship fills the air
Where-so-ever we may wander
Ah, His tender eye is there
