Of Gossamer Eclipses...Nostalgic Re-post)

Make today a day of 'feeling' moments before they slip to nevermore...Yes! the tree is decorated at last.

Away, away, the past is laid
In coffers firmly sealed
Afar, afar the future waits
Its mystery unrevealed
But now, but now one moment breathes
A gossamer eclipse
As future becomes present
For one gasp upon our lips
Then it recedes; a silk-spun waft
To time’s elusive crypt
Just as another, whisper-soft
Brushes our finger-tips…
Future to present to the past
The shadow of all three
Coalesce as they are cast
To ageless memory

December Dusk

December twirls smoke-curlicues
To avenues of bluer blues
Outlines are stark before the dark
Of dusk bids brusque land-lords adieu
The lowering of evening
Is tangible, its air a cloth
Spilling in satin seraphim
And overtures of ether Bach

Soon afternoon is stripped of light
Tuning tresses with silent night
As star-froth falls to deck the halls
Of hill and field in silver-white
And bard becomes a beggar where
The yard and boulevard are bare
Of rush, the plush of velvet hush
A brush on dusk’s flushed thoroughfare

Blue deepens until naught remains
Of scenes outside our windowpanes
Where peace on earth is home and hearth
Beneath the dark that dusk unchains
And suddenly the world is strange
As dark and daylight interchange
In blue adieu and curlicue
Of wood-smoke drifting ‘cross the range

Speechless Praise

I stood on the fringe of a dark new-born day
And I couldn’t think of the right words to say
To He who saw fit
To extend a bit
Time’s affidavit of gold and gray

I stood on the edge of a ledge, soft, surreal
Caught, as it were, on time’s still-turning wheel
And I couldn’t think
The sky was so pink
And earth but a wink beneath heaven’s appeal

I stood on the brink of vast, imminent Past
Motionless while moments hasten so fast
Speechless, I bow
On this God-granted Now
Beneath the glow of Love’s new mercy-cast

I stood on the fringe of new day’s sacred ground
What can I say where the night, morning-crowned
Spills ‘round my feet
And out onto the street?
…thought repeats ‘thank-You’ with nary a sound

Then Let It Begin...

…then let it begin not in the din
Of feeble Happy Holiday
But with the love of God above
He gave Jesus on Christmas Day

…then let it begin with Love’s First Gift
Not tinsel-strewn or paper-shod
But in a humble cattle-stall
Came Jesus Christ the Son of God

…then let it begin with awe of Him
Creator of sky, sea and sod
Came down to earth in lowly birth
A peasant’s Babe, the Son of God

…then let it begin with Hope and Peace
And not the fretting, getting-race
But with this joy of Baby Boy
That came to save us by God’s grace

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.…Phil. 2:5-7

Time's Other Side

Today we stand on Time's out-stretched hand...
But Time is subtle, sinking sand

While we make plans we would be wise
to look beyond what satisfies
this mortal tent in which we bide
until we reach time’s other side

The plans we ponder here below
are subjected to change, we know
But, One appointment waits astride
this passage to time’s other side

Without a doubt someday we’ll stand
before Love’s reaching nail-scarred hands,
Will we ignore this certain tide
that leads us to time’s other side?

Time’s other side of timeless deep
cups this wee gasp of moment-sweep,
Earnest, sincere we should prepare
while on this side of ‘over there’

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16

Midnight's Battle-wounds

The middle night is dark and deep and sages sleep while poets fight
Rife tides that never slumber but humbly beseech their hands to write
And so they do, sail out into a frost-fraught solitude where thought
Is stirred and drifts from word to word to find the very one it sought

The middle night is like a lake and moments break in ripples where
The frigate of vast centuries is harbored in its laden air
The undertows of highs and lows tug at a poet’s searching pen
To spill from quill the tempest-will of tug-of-warring minds of men

The middle night unbars the stars soldered by daylight’s polished poise
Now torrents of both loss and love thunder through thought without a noise
Then, softly falls upon the page, its madrigals of ageless age
Like blood-drops from the battle-wounds in wars that only poet’s wage
