Fleeting
Nothing can stay
The green of spring will soon obey
The law of nature’s ceaseless hand
As gold and bronze reclaim the land
And summer’s fairer day
Nothing can last
Though we may strive to hold it fast
The face that brims with dreams and youth
Too soon must recognize life’s truth
How quickly comes the past
Nothing remains
To yearn is but to live in chains
So taste this moment ripe with chance
Hold it lightly in your dance
It will not pass again
Nothing can stay
The echo of a fairer day
May return in reverie
Or in a love-worn memory
As whispers slip away
