For All This-A for Effort, Please?

Yesterday This chair

held a replay of This

because already Little Boy is struggling with this law in all of us...

For I do not do the good I want to do,
but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.
Romans 7:19
Read the glorious analysis to the quandary here;

For all the failures I could count
In Learning’s stumble-humbled chase
In the end all seems to amount
To ‘try again, all by God’s grace’

For all the 'bumble-pie' life serves
Without waiting for ‘seconds please?’
I should stagger beneath cruel curves
If it packed, not lacked calories

For all the things I thought I knew
Until life puts it to the test
Becomes The Thing that draws me to
My knees with pleas of meek request

For all the gritty grunts and groans
That could forge millstones from my tears
But mercy turns to stepping-stones
And keeps me from drowning in fears

For all that at first glance would seem
To be failure’s shining success
I pray that God would kindly glean
An A for effort from its mess

And save me from would-be despair
Not by some credit proudly earned
But by His whisper in my prayer
For all my spoil, His grace returned

Sweet Confidence or Complete Confidence

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
Psalm 90:14

While writing this poem I looked up today's Daily Bread Devotional,
What encouragement, what hope we have in this little life on earth!

Love how this fellow-Ontario-an/Canadian David Wesley uses his gift for God's glory!

The love of God for man
Thought cannot comprehend
The love that in Eden began
Its wonder without end

God’s favour rests upon
Unfeigned humility
His faithfulness ignites the dawn
With Hope’s authority

Where evil dominates
With hate, dread, gloom and fear
The goodness of God permeates
The heart with love’s kind cheer

What gladness Mercy grants
Where joy and heartache wend
No matter what the circumstance
God is a faithful Friend

The power of His name
Pierces the dark with Light
We hope in He who overcame
Death with eternal life

Therefore, though we are tried
Our confidence is sweet
For if God is on our side
No evil can defeat

this morning I am including the passage before the verses I have shared the past few days...

Romans 8:28-39

God Works in All Things

28And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. 29For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. 30And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.

31What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, freely give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God— and He is interceding for us.

More than Conquerors

35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36As it is written:

 For Your sake we face death all day long;

we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Perfect Reason to Boast

This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom,
nor the strong man in his strength,
nor the wealthy man in his riches.
But let him who boasts boast in this,
that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD,
who exercises loving devotion, justice and righteousness on the earth--
for I delight in these things," declares the LORD.

1 Cor.1:31
Therefore, as it is written: "Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord."

Glory ye in his holy name:
let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.

Then, even when hard knocks abound
And we are found wanting, we boast
In humble worldwide common ground
That He who made us loves us most

When trouble tests the best with worst
And we doubt what we see, we know
And by this grace of God we go

Through ages past or yet to come
His kind assurance soothes the soul
Nothing can separate us from
God’s love in absolute control

Then sing for joy and glorify
The One who does not shift or change
Praise Him who cares for you and I
With love that nothing can estrange

Then, even when hard knocks abound
And we are found wanting, we boast
In humble worldwide common ground
That He who made us loves us most

The verses below are this week's life's theme!!
Hallelujah!
his love is certain through all uncertainty

Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life,
nor angels nor principalities nor powers,
nor things present nor things to come,
39nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing,
shall be able to separate us
from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So Often This Sinner Marvels!

 Romans 3:22-24

This righteousness is given through faith in h Jesus Christ to all who believe.
There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,
23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
, 24and all are justified freely by his grace
through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

So often misinterpreted
So often misunderstood
So often, not loved but hated
Still, God is love,
God is good

Ignored or doubted, so often
Rejected, scorned and despised
So often unthanked, forgotten
Still Mercy’s goodness
Abides

Constant is His kind extolment
While mortal inhales, exhales
Often blind to Guilt’s atonement
(yet) God’s forgiveness
Never fails

So often refused with boldness
Man befriends gods cold and base
So often, still He defends us
Undeserving of
Love’s grace

So often He longs to save us
From pride’s folly and its fall
Where so often hunger blazes
Trails right through
A miracle

Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life,
nor angels nor principalities nor powers,
nor things present nor things to come,
39nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing,
shall be able to separate us
from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Witnesses of God's Faithfulness

A gorgeous autumn Monday morning!

When the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, He said in His heart,
“Never again will I curse the ground because of man,
even though every inclination of his heart is evil from his youth.
And never again will I destroy all living creatures as I have done.
"As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease."
Gen.8:21-22

God’s mercy melts night’s crepuscule,
His glory rends the raven tulle
Where push and pull of Duty’s Plow
Resumes its charge of Here and Now

Our hands were made to work, it seems
Our hearts are weighed with hopes and dreams
Our days are numbered, none can sway
The will of He who grants each day

Our lives are cupped in Perfect Love
God’s grace supplies more than enough
To author joy no matter what
May vex the barriers of thought

God’s power is in full control
In spite of time’s tumultuous toll
To prove the intent of the heart
So selfish from the very start

God’s Son died to birth Living Hope
Salvation is man’s means to cope
With suffering; humility
Does not dispute God’s deity

His faithfulness fuels dawn’s gold
That we, altogether behold
Whether we believe or deny
The Creator of earth and sky

God’s mercy metes another day
Ah, will we seize it yet not pray?
Where we are all partakers of
His kindness, compassion and love

Countdown Climax (and remembering Ron)

Photo of Ron used by permission...

This weekend our church family is remembering Ron
October 5th marks a year since
his Life-on-earth-clock ran out!
But Ron, well aware of The Countdown
we all have in common, was ready!.
His constant plea was that we will be as well!
He would urge us to be aware of the fragility
of the thread between time and eternity!
A thread that was severed so suddenly and unexpectedly for him!
Ron's passion was waking in us the awed awareness
of the love of God for man; (for you and me!)
so much so God gave His only Son Jesus to suffer and die
to be the eternal sacrifice for sin. He rose again, defeated death,
so all who believe in Him will
never perish but have everlasting life! (John 3:16)

Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure,
for if you do these things you will never stumble;
2 Peter 1:10

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness
through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

We live in a life of countdowns comprised of common highs and lows...
drawing us nearer with each breath to Curtain Close!

 Jesus is our Hope...
Salvation is found in no one else,
for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind
by which we must be saved.
Acts 4:12

People are always counting down to something, so it seems
We move through moments drawing us toward both dread and dreams
While balancing the best and worst of who we are within
A very human-natured bark of heart, soul, bone and skin

The numbered days we occupy are filled with highs and lows
We laugh and weep where grief and joy blends high-fives and low blows
As smile-and-frown with ups and downs lends what life tries to teach
And reason rivals with Forces beyond four-seasoned reach

Ah, here’s the kicker; we grow old much quicker than we dreamed
Where Reasoning is vexed and tried; logic often esteemed
More highly than the holy, lowly common bond we share
A Countdown concluded beyond Time’s tick-tock dwindled stair

Our temporal countdowns pale in comparison to This
Where Reasoning is futile without Faith’s analysis
Where pain and pleasure, gain and loss and all points in between
Compose countdowns that climax in a blip upon a screen

So then, it all comes down to this; The Hope that we embrace
Where the forge of Forever appears very commonplace
Where flesh which cups undying soul is altogether flawed
And only faith can make us whole by the kind grace of God

Let’s contemplate love’s countdowns and who they are geared toward
What will they benefit after Soul to God is restored?
For none of us can know how long until death’s Gong resounds
And we open Immortal Eyes where Being has no bounds

© Janet Martin

I subconsciously count down to this moment every morning!

I purposefully count down to this (photo below) every day
(because discipline in spending time with God makes everything else in life better)
Ron challenged us constantly not just to read but to feed on God's Word, Truth
(the highlighted verses were included in the email to
our church family as they shared the sorrowful news of Ron's passing)

Cook's Creed

Fall; a cook's paradise...
Fresh from the garden everything
is as good as it gets!

As much, dear cook, as we are able
We should put dinner on the table
And if we have the means to make it good
Then by those means, dear cook, i think we should
