While We're Still Learning Our Lines...

(Above scene from Anne of Green Gables; Matthew's Heart Attack)

"Did I change quickly enough?" Victoria asks anxiously after the play last night...and suddenly I find myself asking the same question as I try to keep up with Time's scene-changes. It's hard to keep fingers from trembling as we slip from one costume to the next.

While we’re still learning our lines
The Director turns the page
And rearranges the stage
To scripts and scenes untried

Her gaze never flinches as she
Unbuttons the skin we are in
And we fumble with the half-grin
Of Her constant chivalry

She is suave, brave and bold
As She purveys Her motley cast
Caught somewhere twixt Future and Past
In costumes of Growing Old

The cloth of Her moments shapes
Triumph and failure’s disguise
It is hard to recognize
Clowns in choir-capes

…where the roles of Her interplays
Are ever subject to change
As we stutter over strange
Sudden and unlearned ways

And while hearts struggle to adjust
To the New, the curtain rises
To an audience of surprises
Waiting on chairs of dust

After Taxes

A penny saved is a penny earned. Aunt Bee

A penny earned is a penny taxed.  Andy Griffith

We pinch and save
and scrimp and brave
and figure
 just to find
that
after taxes
we are still
a life of ease
 behind

Lest Our Feet Should Slip

Random acts of greatness pale in comparison to habitual acts of faithfulness. Ann Voskamp

Then keep us faithful in Thy Word
So by Thy word we know
And Let Thy Word be our sword
Conqueror of our foe
And let Thy Word be our Light
Where dark of night would trip
And let Thy word be our Sight
Lest our feet should slip

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Ps.119:105

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Jeremiah 23:29 - [Is] not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer [that] breaketh the rock in pieces?

2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:   (Read More...)

Matthew 4:4 - But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Ephesians 6:17 - And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Earth Sings

Yesterday earth was singing at the top of her lungs here; our first above-freezing temps of this year!

When the March sun tickles
Her toes
Earth giggles

When the March sun kisses
Her nose
Earth grins

When the March sun tweaks
Her cheeks
She blushes

When the March sun warms
Her lips
Earth sings

March Morning Heave-ho

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker; Ps.95:6

The hull of what we soon will fill beams from a waking sky
Earth’s sea of black-capped ripples gleams in winter’s lullaby

Time is a phantom vessel; dream and Duty daily board
The hour like a frigate sailing ever heaven-ward

And Happiness, the color of spring, startles tongues and toes
Where every sun-drop is pure gold and every bud a rose

Together we, the kinfolk of Time’s turquoise-circle sea
Set sail upon the morning-tide of moment-mystery

The hull of what we soon will fill beams; by God’s grace we go
As jolly sailors sing of spring, a jubilant ‘Heave-ho’
