Things About Your Mother You Should Know...

PAD Challenge day 9: Time for our second Two for Tuesday of the month!
Pick one prompt or use both…your choice!
  1. Write a love poem. All you need is love.
  2. Write an anti-love poem. Or not.

 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
Prov.31:28

Dear Son and/or Daughter
from your mother

Your mother will always love you
With heart-strings ironclad
When you hurt she suffers with you
Your triumphs make her glad

From the first time she held you near
From your first newborn cry
Love became life itself, my dear
Bigger than summer's sky

Her love for you gives purpose to
Life’s mundane tasks because
A Love bigger than hers shines through
The little things she does

He helps her through the hardest parts
This Charge God rendered her
Is not for Woman Faint of Heart
When she becomes Mother

For you her dreams and reasons change
For pangs of birth begin
A mother's life-long labor-pains
Hug, hold, let go, scold, grin

Her prayers could fill up an ocean
Your cares become hers too
Hers is a dogged devotion
Unwavering and true

Her teaching becomes her learning
Her learning brings heartaches
So forgive her while she is earning
Her certificate of mistakes

For all she really longs for
In her imperfect best
Is motherhood's highest honor
That you will call her blessed

Then whether mother is thirty-two
Or wizened ninety-five
Love her, for oh, she will love you
As long as she is alive

On Keeping the Courage (for moms)

This applies to dads as well, but because I'm a mom it is written from a mother's vantage-point...
...because motherhood is not for the faint of heart!
Her heart fits inside suitcases packed full of clothes and dreams,
it flutters in good-bye waves,
it is the sparkle in a tear.
Her heart is shaped into a prayer.

Dear mothers, we would buckle beneath the weight of love
But for daily replenishment from Someone above
Who Fathers the mother who braves unlearned ways
To give to her family the best of her days

Dear mothers, how could we bear the heart-string’s pull
It seems we can never prepare for in full
But for the Father who helps mother-wife
To give to her family the rest of her life

Dear mothers, our mothers have borne this love too
And needed the Father to carry them through
And grant her the strength to give, in joy or strife
The best of her days for the rest of her life

The High Call of Home-making...

From a grandma's vantage-point I can say from this...
 ...to this ...
is a blink!

 ...to mothers/homemakers and future mothers/homemakers

Thou, Keeper of love's sacred springs
Where childhood's feet splash through
Thou, daughter of the King of kings
 The world depends on you

Thou, hand that rocks the cradle, oh
Though humble seems thy role
There is no greater charge, oh no
Than that of a child's soul

Thou, matriarch with tender voice
Thou mother in the home
'Child makes a choice and then the choice
Will make who they become'

...so, thou with baby in thy arms
Or children at thy knee
Be of good cheer, thy presence warms
Both home and family

Thy gentle voice is like a song
Thy touch, like hope unfurled
Thy common toil should rank among
The grandest in the world

Thy confidence in God to guide
In pathways, true and right
Thy mother-mild to kneel beside
Thy little child at night

Oh, may the comfort of thy love
And faithful 'being there'
Be like a poignant symbol of
God's faithful love and care

Thou, teacher of obedience
May love's humility
Make home a royal residence
For God and family

I cannot force you to listen to these messages below but I do ever-so-highly recommend it!(after hubby suggested that I might like them...he listens to this speaker sometimes while he is driving)

Messages by Jack Graham to exhort and encourage godly girls and women, esp. wives and mothers.

(the ending of this message directed to men)

 Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Thank God For Godly Mothers/Women

We enjoyed a mother-daughter day with mom today...
no pics but lots of chit-chat! (missed you. Mar!)
My sister who hosted the luncheon sent us all home with beautiful blooms!

My mom modeled/models Prov. 31; 10-31 for her daughters...
Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
Prov.31:25-31

Of all the blessings that life grants
One holds a price beyond compare
It fills our hearts with humble thanks
For godly mothers everywhere

Though words will never be enough
We try in sweet and sundry ways
…and for a godly mother’s love
We lift to God a song of praise

We thank Him for mother, so dear
Who through wisdom, not of her own
Taught sons and daughters to revere
The one true God on Heaven’s throne

Who, by her walk, (not words alone)
Her children, when grown can applaud
And thank her for faithful love shown
That let them glimpse the love of God

Mother-love

One of the favorite parts of my 'job' is chatting with the other moms about mom-stuff/love...
the bond of motherhood is universal!

Mother-love
So fierce so tender
Hands of careful
Prayerful splendor
Discipliner
And defender

Mother-love
Life-long devotion
More than
Sentiment’s emotion
Big enough
To dwarf an ocean

Mother-love
It cheers and teaches
Corrects, comforts,
Praises, preaches
Where you are
There her heart reaches

Mother-love
There is no other
Quite like the love
Of a mother
While you can
Tell her you love her

Because You Are My Favorite Son

PAD Challenge prompt 16:For today’s prompt, write a favorite poem. Maybe that sounds a bit silly, but what I mean is to write a poem about something that’s your favorite. A favorite teacher. Favorite movie. Favorite ice cream flavor. I don’t know, because I have my own list of favorites. Only you can do you…and your favorites. Who knows? Maybe this will end up being your favorite prompt this month...

Because you are my favorite son
*I will stay up til midnight
to get your laundry done
so tomorrow's work pants, shirts and coat
won't be drenched with the pure
stench
of
manure
(or barn smell:)

Because you are my favorite son
I'll pour your morning coffee-to-go
 and pack your lunch
(Contrary to 'other mother' advice)
Because you say you like 'lunch-surprises'
and I agree;
surprises
are
nice

...and my best guess is
as long as the mess is
yours, I'll keep on scolding and folding
and tidying
(or it might not get done)
Love always,
from your 'favorite mother'
to you,
my favorite son

Aka-Janet

I esp. like him on the days he surprises me with a Tim Horton's coffee!

Matt is our only son.
I don't have a favourite daughter...I have three!

Tonight I was ready to go to bed when I remembered
Matt told me when he came home from work
that there is a garbage bag of very dirty work clothes in the garage!
(Some of which he will need in the morning)
So, I decided to check out today's PAD prompt while it was washing...
easy-peasy to come up with a topic;-)
and p-s-s-st! when I'm poem-ing I almost forget what time it is!
