Wonderful

May I never lose the wonder
Of the love You have for me
Like a child, believing simply
Without insecurity

May I never lose the wonder
Of a river unrestrained
Flowing from the roughened timber
Out of Heaven’s perfect Hand

May I never lose the wonder
Of my debt, atrocious, vast
Paid in full by Christ’s atonement
It is more than I can grasp

May I never lose the wonder
…He who holds the sky and sea
Extols the lightning and the thunder
Yet cares for me intimately

May I never lose the wonder
…love I ne’er can comprehend
Saves the low confounded sinner
And His mercy will not end

May I never lose the wonder
As He takes me from this shore
To His Kingdom over yonder
There to be forevermore

Healer...

My ideas are done…
I gaze in awe at the setting sun
Like faded tigers sprawled across the west
I slip my plan to He who knows me best

Life can suck the dreamer dry
I had a bit of dream once, in my eye
Beat the drum low, with gathered brow
Dreams are the ire of dust, ya’ know…

But He who plants the hills with ore
And paints His art across earth’s shore
His way is perfect, pure and just
He sees our dreams slather the dust

His art now tints nut tree and moss
They glow with crimson, like the Cross
Where we can rid ourselves of guilt
Because of perfect blood He spilt…

His way is upright and astute
It bends the will of iron or jute
I grasp His love in humble daze
A gnat cannot escape His gaze

The ova of the devil’s hex
Seeks to torment me and vex
Me with the seeding of a lie
Good and evil seem to vie…

…for fruit upon my trembling lips
Can a thistle tree bear figs?
Clouds of dark fore-boding zoom
To sic their evil lies of doom

But then I lift my tortured eyes
To the Painter of the skies
His glory bathes a sin-cursed land
The Healer stretches forth His Hand…

Hollow...

There’s nothing as hollow
As the ring of
Empty words…

There’s nothing quite as disappointing
As receiving them…
It hurts

Because there is no clearer way
To say
You don’t matter at all, to me

Completely unaffected
By the wounds
Which they may leave

There’s nothing as shallow
As empty words
Of no worth

So hard to swallow them
Empty words full of
Truth…

The Realizations of Love...

The moment we are old enough to feel
The beauty and pleasure of love
We also become keenly aware
Of the hurt and sorrow thereof…

The moment we understand
The profound joy love can bring
We also begin to realize
It’s profound suffering…

How Do I Love Thee...

How do I love thee….?
Let me count the ways
I love thee as thy little voice
Lifts high in songs of praise
Or as the winds of heaven
Run their fingers through your hair
Or as your eyes close tightly
In the moment of a prayer
I love those little fingers
Capable of doing much
I pray ‘God keep from evil
As they feel and learn and touch
I love the way your somber face
Absorbs realization
And bursts into happy smiles
When comes the comprehension
I love those bare toes in the sand
As they run and dance
I love to hold your little hand…
…it gives me confidence
I love those lips that whisper
Soft ‘I love you’s’ in my ear
Or as they quiver; tremble
Fighting disappointed tears
I love thee as you snuggle
Close to me with warm affection
I love thee as you dash away
With out plan or direction
I love your rough-and-tumble heart
Your kind and precious soul
I love you for you are the part
Of me, that makes me whole…

How I Love You...

The way I love you
Will be with tender care
I will touch you softly in a thought
…or in a prayer
And every little thing I do
For you will be with pleasure
Because, my dear, I do love you
Without limitation or measure
…and I will miss you in the same way
When you are not here
Love does not change when you’re far away
It’s just that way, my dear
And I will do the best I can
To show my love for you
Because when all is said and done
It’s all that I can do

But I will not obsess or possess, my dear
For that could never be love
And it would become a burden, I fear
Instead of a gift from above
For love sets us free; it does not bind or control
And love is a splendid thing
Darling, I love you with body and soul
And for you, I would do anything
…except build a shrine in honor of you
Or worship the steps you take
I do not want to idolize you
But simply to love you always
Forever and ever, faithful and true
This, my dear, is how I love you

Today I Took the Time

Miracles

Today I took the time
…and realized it really took
No time at all

Today I heard
…saw, touched and tasted…
Miracles

Little Angel's Heaven....

Through meadows sweet her eager feet the dewy blossoms waken,
She stirs the dust where wanderlust her childish heart has taken,
With picnic basket and teddy bear,
Sun bonnet and ruffled underwear,
And ribbons clinging to her hair
As by her prance, they’re shaken

With hops and skips her basket tips yet never seems to scatter,
While fairy-queen and evergreen hark to her ceaseless chatter,
Dear teddy bear and lilac tree,
Even the busy honey bee,
Nod and listen wordlessly
To what, it does not matter

The laughing breeze and shady trees with loving vigil guard her,
Bereft of care, this angel fair basks here in nature’s ardor,
Where time and haste do not exist,
Where blossoms are caressed and kissed,
She never wonders if she’s missed,
This precious little daughter

Oh, what I’d pay for just a day to walk the trail she wanders,
Where sparkling brooks and mossy nooks watch as the hour she squanders,
But far too soon adulthood hails,
And draws her from these precious trails,
A heaven made for little girls
That years from now, will taunt her
