How I Love You...

The way I love you
Will be with tender care
I will touch you softly in a thought
…or in a prayer
And every little thing I do
For you will be with pleasure
Because, my dear, I do love you
Without limitation or measure
…and I will miss you in the same way
When you are not here
Love does not change when you’re far away
It’s just that way, my dear
And I will do the best I can
To show my love for you
Because when all is said and done
It’s all that I can do

But I will not obsess or possess, my dear
For that could never be love
And it would become a burden, I fear
Instead of a gift from above
For love sets us free; it does not bind or control
And love is a splendid thing
Darling, I love you with body and soul
And for you, I would do anything
…except build a shrine in honor of you
Or worship the steps you take
I do not want to idolize you
But simply to love you always
Forever and ever, faithful and true
This, my dear, is how I love you

Today I Took the Time

Miracles

Today I took the time
…and realized it really took
No time at all

Today I heard
…saw, touched and tasted…
Miracles

Little Angel's Heaven....

Through meadows sweet her eager feet the dewy blossoms waken,
She stirs the dust where wanderlust her childish heart has taken,
With picnic basket and teddy bear,
Sun bonnet and ruffled underwear,
And ribbons clinging to her hair
As by her prance, they’re shaken

With hops and skips her basket tips yet never seems to scatter,
While fairy-queen and evergreen hark to her ceaseless chatter,
Dear teddy bear and lilac tree,
Even the busy honey bee,
Nod and listen wordlessly
To what, it does not matter

The laughing breeze and shady trees with loving vigil guard her,
Bereft of care, this angel fair basks here in nature’s ardor,
Where time and haste do not exist,
Where blossoms are caressed and kissed,
She never wonders if she’s missed,
This precious little daughter

Oh, what I’d pay for just a day to walk the trail she wanders,
Where sparkling brooks and mossy nooks watch as the hour she squanders,
But far too soon adulthood hails,
And draws her from these precious trails,
A heaven made for little girls
That years from now, will taunt her

Hi Megan, this is the poem I told you about.

Just People...

We’re just people…
Without God allowing it
There is nothing we can do
We’re just people
I am me
And you are you…
And we need each other
Oh, it’s true
Because when we need each other
It’s amazing what
‘Just people’ can do

When we put an arm around the grieving
Share with them a mutual tear
When we love the unbelieving
Until Jesus draws them near
When we walk a second mile
All alone and in the rain
Knowing somewhere angel’s smile
Because we share another’s pain
When we touch the little child
And sometimes let them lead the way
When we forgive and reconcile
When we pause a while to pray
When we give and no one sees
But the Father up above
When we get down on our knees
And sit with those who can’t stand up
When we seek the others best
Never thinking of our own
Knowing someone will be blessed
By the little love we’ve shown…
When we join hands in unity
And lay aside our strife
To be all that we can be
In this little thing called life
When we love the way God loves us
Never mind our shape or skin
When together we join forces
Then together we will win...

We’re just people
Yes, it’s true
I am me
And you are you
But we need each other
Oh, this is true
Then oh, it’s amazing
What ‘just people’ can do

Dang...Cute

Why d’ya have go and look so dang cute
I was going to scold you and tell you to be good
But your freckle nose and your blue eyes
Took me by a sweet surprise
Why d’ya have to go and steal away
Every little word I was going to say …
Like ‘look before you leap’ and ‘don’t forget to pray’
And ‘you’re gonna be a man someday….’

Why d’ya have to go and grow so tall
You’re not a little boy anymore at all
And I’m not quite sure what you feel like
As you race down the street on your old gray bike
Why d’ya have be in such a hurry then
To grow up fast so you can be a man
Why d’ya have to go and look so dang cute
When I just want to hold you and tell you to be good…

Why d’ya have to drive me a little mad
I guess you likely get that from your dad…
Why d’ya have to go and lose your baseball hat
We can’t afford another one like that
Why does it have to be so hard to put into words?
How I love you son, so much that it hurts
Why d’ya have to go and look so dang cute
Standing eye to eye with me while I say….be good

Holding On...

This time I will hold on
A little longer
Absorb every detail
Until I am stronger
With painstaking attention
I trace every part
Pondering it deeply
In my heart
The low-flung cloud
In tumbled sky
Reflects within
My restless eye
The pastureland
Weary and wasted
Stripped of freedom
Tried and tasted
The sighing of
Melancholy
Moaning above
A rain-swept lea
The warmth of August
On the wind
The warmth of you
Against my skin
The ticking of an afternoon
Full of love
And gone too soon
Over the hill
And far away
Into the fields
Of yesterday
This time I hold on
But in vain
This moment is gone…
…and will not pass again

Beautiful You...

On some days
The sadness of loving you
Overwhelms me
To the point of absolute stillness

Tell me, please
Why does loving you
Have to be
So excruciatingly beautiful?

Gathering Season...

We gather into our arms the purples and gold
Knowing too soon their petals will fold
To dust the avenues of the past
Where autumn’s deeper blues are cast…

We gather into our hearts the music of laughter
Childish voices drift to dim-lit rafters
Where starlight pins to the close of a day
The knowing that soon this too slips away…

We gather into our tears life’s joy and its sorrow
As we hold loved ones near; they may be gone tomorrow
We gather moments of invaluable worth
These are the greatest treasures on earth…

It's Inevitable...

It’s inevitable…
We all say good-byes we would rather not say
And if we live long enough our hair will turn gray
We all must suffer the pain of defeat
To know that victory truly is sweet

It’s inevitable
We all are creatures of mutual need
And harvest is proof of planted seed
Anything at all that our hand has wrought
Was born in a cradle known as thought

It’s inevitable
Life is a journey; death is not the end
There’s one choice we make with which we must contend
After our last breath; as we cross a sea
Into the inevitable…eternity
