That Which We Can Do...

Now rising from the ash of dusk and its frequent demise
The paling of yon heavens sweeps across night’s fettered skies
Beneath Dawn’s beacon, blush and gold or cold and heavy-cast
Mercy expands its breadth of awe from Hands fit for the task
And man, beneath its law of rise and set begets anew
Not what he fully understands but that which he can do

The empire of spent centuries slumbers beneath his feet
Upon its dust man’s routine Must rouses the quiet street
Where that which he supposes juxtaposes with what was
Time’s rose and thorn pronouncement stuns newcomers with its laws
And we are all newcomers to the colors on yon brink
Where that which we can do dons new attire; bronze, gray, pink

Now, that which we can do may seem quite common-place and small
And we may think that what we do won’t count for much at all
Unless we bear in mind the One man serves is King of kings
Deserving our utter best no matter what life brings
As, from the ash of dusk the phoenix of love’s patience prize
Rises, where that which we can do is sacred in God’s eyes

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters...

Rain Rhapsody

There is something soft and sweet in the tune

of a rainy afternoon...

It begs for melody of tea

…and a little poetry

Rain slips in stippled silver notes
It drenches tawny sod
It wakes the bonny seed that wings
In petal-songs to God

Rain drips from heaven-corridors
To floors of hill and plain
An Artist with a muted brush
Paints mirrors on the lane

Rain whispers where winter-gales roared
How soft and sweet it brims
Like little love-songs from the Lord
In tiny droplet-hymns

Rain wrings its melody from clouds
Then flings it to the earth
It dapples window-panes with pearls
And every ditch with mirth

I jotted this just before leaving to dabble in a totally different kind of art...PAINTING!
I have never painted before in my life and it was very interesting and the instructor was patient and kind.
I think I could learn to like it with a few more lessons.

 His above and mine below...

(Much room for improvement, I know, but just putting a little blurb out here for others interested in checking it out because if I could paint something that vaguely resembles the instructor's painting ANYBODY can! )

Gray, Gray March Day

The June-March weather they predicted has not really happened.
...it's more like April or March, March weather;-))

Your coat is haggard, ragged
Your face is sullen-gray
And from your cheek the bleak tear falls
…no one wipes it away

We shiver in your presence
You splash beneath our feet
As you un-stopper doleful skies
In sighs upon the street

Ah, you are no show-stopper
Nobody sings your praise
Yet without you would we full-view
The joy of golden days?

At first glance nothing strikes me
As grand, in your façade
But then Someone whispers to me
You are a gift from God
