Mom Bartering with her Boy

A penny for your thought, my dear
A penny for your thought
Because to share our thoughts, my dear
Is really all we’ve got

A dime to share your thought, my boy
A dime to keep or spend
But if you share your thoughts, my boy
This dime will buy a friend

A quarter for your thought, my son
A quarter just for you
And if you share your thoughts, my son
Then I might make it two

A dollar to keep quiet, mum
I’ll send it in the mail
These thoughts are all I have, sweet mum
And they are not for sale

We Love our Boys...

We love our boys.
Their noise,
Their toys,
Their vim,
Their grin,
A
Mother’s joys

Yes, we love our boys.
Be it
Mischief or
Mirth unfurled
A boy is surely
God’s smile
To the world

We love our boys.
…tomorrow’s men
And as those shoes
They don
I pray within them still
A little bit of boy
Lives on…

Matt loves to tease...his sister and his mother;)

(yesterday after school)  Matt; Hey Mom, what was the celery for in my lunch?

Mom; To eat.

Listen, my Son

When you smile, when you scowl
When you tease mischievously
When you work, when you play
I appraise you differently

…and son,
I praise and reprove you
Quite unlike any other
For you will treat your wife someday
The way you treat your mother

I commented to hubby today how I find myself noticing Matt's character; how I keep thinking about the quote; how you treat your mother is how you'll treat your wife. This quote is not speaking physically, but it is about character and character is shaped when we are young...and while this quote may not be true 100% of the time, I have seen it proven true more often than not.

Of Enlightenments

Maybe someday they will understand
And forgive me for all those words
I tried to say right, but somehow came out wrong

Maybe someday they will agree
That happiness is something
That we cannot touch or see

Maybe someday they will know
It is enough to love
And to be loved

And maybe someday they will touch
On the reasons their mother
Loved them so much

…but didn’t always have the perfect way
To spill from her lips
What she wanted to say

To my Son/Children...Don't Forget

They say that *‘life is what happens
If that is so, then son, I know
That soon you'll be a man

So before you discover
That you want to fly away
Will you listen for a moment
There are some things I want to say…

Don’t forget to live while you’re dreaming
But dream while you’re living too
Don’t forget to pray because above all others
My son, God loves you

And remember, for every choice we make
There is a consequence
And for every temptation come what may
There is a sure Defense

My dearest son, it’s a big, big world
Yet oh, so very small
Fix your hope above this scope
Of temperamental brawl

And don’t forget when the world is dark
And you feel all alone
I am as close as the front porch light
Or a telephone
And someday when you are so busy
Marveling at time’s swift flight
Don’t forget to call your mother
Even if its just to say 'good-night'
And don't forget, that in her prayers
She always holds you tight

Matthew was recalling some times we had when 'he was little'...
and that *quote hit me.

Unwrapping Moments

She watches
Caught between the present
And the past
As her son’s awkward
Attempts at gift-wrapping
Bring laughter from us
And mumbling from him…
As he wraps
She unwraps
Moments
Stored sacredly
Where she can ponder them
In her heart
Moments being fashioned
Into memories
Even now
By hands
Caught somewhere between
A boy
And a man…

Janet~

It’s a tender-sweet stage…13.
The other night I asked him what was so funny
And his instant reply was unexpected…
“mom, guy humor”
And he never did tell me!

The verse below has been one of my favorites, for as long as I can remember..
Our hearts, the place we store our most cherished thoughts.

But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19

Dang...Cute

Why d’ya have go and look so dang cute
I was going to scold you and tell you to be good
But your freckle nose and your blue eyes
Took me by a sweet surprise
Why d’ya have to go and steal away
Every little word I was going to say …
Like ‘look before you leap’ and ‘don’t forget to pray’
And ‘you’re gonna be a man someday….’

Why d’ya have to go and grow so tall
You’re not a little boy anymore at all
And I’m not quite sure what you feel like
As you race down the street on your old gray bike
Why d’ya have be in such a hurry then
To grow up fast so you can be a man
Why d’ya have to go and look so dang cute
When I just want to hold you and tell you to be good…

Why d’ya have to drive me a little mad
I guess you likely get that from your dad…
Why d’ya have to go and lose your baseball hat
We can’t afford another one like that
Why does it have to be so hard to put into words?
How I love you son, so much that it hurts
Why d’ya have to go and look so dang cute
Standing eye to eye with me while I say….be good

Realizations #2

It hurts sometimes
To look into your eyes
And realize
That soon you will be a man
But what a tender pain to bear
For I know God has a plan
For you, my dear
And I cannot deny it
As your head brushes my chin
It won’t be long before I wonder
Where my little boy has gone
And as I pause to ponder
The brevity of it all
Perhaps a little tear will fall
But oh, what a tender tear to shed
For though we cannot know what lies ahead
We will have each other
And God
I will always be your mother
And no matter where you trod
When I cannot be there
God will reach you with my prayer
His light is never dim
And we can always talk to Him

Janet~
