Undeserved Forgiveness

If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

Undeserved forgiveness
God, how can it be?
For you fully witness
Our depravity

Yet You do not waver
Lord, if we confess
You cleanse us, dear Saviour
From unrighteousness

Lord of loving kindness
You grant in wrath’s place
Undeserved forgiveness
Unmerited grace

For it is by grace you have been saved through faith,
and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God,
not by works, so that no one can boast.
Eph.2:8-9

How Can We Show Love...

These are dark days but because He lives we can face tomorrow!

"Because I live, you also will live."
John 14:19

Have you found it hard to feel encouraged in these dark days?

"it's so hard to know how to show love in a city where everyone is afraid"
said Melissa last night as she struggled with ideas on how to show love
in a world where again this week so much of the news
is heavy and hard and we want to change the world with love but how?
~ "You must be the change you want to see in the world."~
Mahatma Ghandi

Melissa shared an encounter with her intent to show love the other day...
she heard a lady in a wheel-chair calling 'will someone please help me cross the street?'
so she thought, 'well, that's pretty obvious! I can help her'
but as she pushed the very heavy wheel chair the woman wailed in pain over every bump,
Melissa got stuck in an LRT track and sheer panic forced the chair free!
When she reached the other side one woman was as distraught as the other
and she said 'all I intended to do was show love'.💝

It's hard not to let anger take root in the unfairness-es of life...
but God IS love.
He IS good!

Psalm 145:8-9
The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.
 The Lord is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.

Let's trade our anger in for humble prayer
for a heart of forgiveness and love!
I turned to Psalm 37 yesterday for comfort and encouragement
It begins like this...
Do not fret because of evildoers,...

We are not equipped to stand up for what we believe
until we get down on our knees!

How can we show love in a world where fear’s dark fathoms roll
With woe and pain, anxiety, chaos out of control
Mountains can seem so hard and high, but we are called to climb
And suffer the strain of its struggle one step at a time

How can we show love in a world where doubt and mistrust mars
The heart where hope should spring immortal, instead of hate’s scars
How can we hold a hand when Covid keeps touch beyond reach
Or comfort one another in death’s losses, dark and deep

How can we show love in a world of love misunderstood
Because broken humanity has not loved like we should
This place where racial prejudice makes people vile of heart
Makes we who want to show love, wonder how to do our part

How can we show love in a world where opinion takes charge
The Word of God rejected/neglected by the masses, by and large
How can we gain wisdom to know how to love without fail
On an ocean of ships tossed to and fro without a sail

How can we show love and not take offense when ‘they’ oppose
When we are crowned with thorns while scorn tramples love’s perfect rose
When evil seems to triumph and the world screams ‘where is God’
When answers are inept when instead of a kiss, a rod

How can we show love in a world that needs it desperately?
We start by looking through lenses of true humility
We start by seeking God to guide, for we are called to climb
One smile, kind word, one retort withheld, one prayer at a time

One heart that trusts the One who battled in Gethsemane
Surrendering His will to Love’s Supreme Authority
One life committed to the call no matter what the price
Where the greatest Command of all begins with sacrifice

Masterpiece of Master Peace

Last night the wheels fell off the peace-and-goodwill bus for a little...
in a blur of lost tempers and misunderstood personalities that
might never be fully understood this side of Heaven😐
(aren't you humbly thankful if we confess our sins
He is faithful and just to forgive our sin
and cleanse us from all unrighteousness?!(1 John 1:9)
As we let those words sink and sink in
meek gratitude renders
hope renewed

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world."
John 16:33

In this world where fear and sorrow
Molds a masterpiece of care
What is our hope for tomorrow
To defend us from despair

In this world where toil and trouble
Unfurls hobbles of dismay
What buoys and cups time’s bubble
Bobbing toward Judgement Day

In this world where want and waiting
Tries the fealty of us all
What crushes the taunting, hating
Head of evil’s dreadful gall

In this masterpiece of mayhem
In this world of sin and strife
What in the midst of confusion
Is the bulwark in our life

What keeps our eyes fixed on heaven
In this world of blame and shame
Ah this! Knowing we are forgiven
Is the Master Peace we claim

Knowing that nothing can ever
Overthrow Salvation’s Name
Yesterday today forever
Jesus Christ abides the same

Knowing, glorious, victorious
Waves the banner of release
In the cleansing blood of Jesus
All will find love’s Master Peace

Jesus Makes All The Difference

Brandt Jean's Act Of Grace Toward His Brother's Killer

Brandt Jean's forgiveness gives us a small picture of what Jesus has or wants to do in every single life; forgive us...because as Brandt stated, we have all done something we should not do!

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so,
I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Jesus~

The window to the world flings wide with daybreak’s blush and gold
The life that we are lent extends Love’s promises once more
Where time, like a tugboat draws us; and whether young or old
We cannot tell how near or far we are to ‘yonder shore’

And who can bear to meet the One who wears redemption’s scars
And realize too late the awful state of Deathless Soul
Jesus and only Jesus breaks guilt’s hopeless prison bars
Jesus and only Jesus makes the broken sinner whole

Jesus makes all the diff’rence in the way we love and live
He wakes in us awareness of a fount where mercies brim
Then, because He forgave us we ought also to forgive
For He makes all things possible if we believe in Him

…and though we do not know as yet what battle we must fight
Jesus makes all the difference if we His Gift receive
Knowing the trying of our faith is but to prove His might
That indwells ev’ry one of us who repent and believe

Little did I dream that before this post is up...
how far more deeply relevant the above devotional would become!
(I wrote the poem early this morning but our internet is a little
like a child playing with a light switch! blinks on and off non-stop)
...but oh, how little we know what a day will hold!
Our dearly beloved pastor Ron Seabrooke passed away suddenly this morning!
We are in heart-broken shock but
we do not mourn as those with no hope...
1 Thess. 3: 13-14

Please pray for comfort for his family
and our church family.
He touched lives world-wide and many mourn our loss and heaven's gain!

Lift Your Heart To Heaven

When we feel falsely accused, when we feel misused, abused,
we should lift our hurt to Heaven
because He was hurt too, by and for us!
"A new command I give you: Love one another.
As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this all men will know that you are My disciples,
if you love one another.”
John 13:34-35

Lift your heart of hurt to heaven
Child of He who loves us so
Praise Him for our sins forgiven
Trust for what we do not know

Let go of resentment’s treason
Turn the other cheek and pray
Do not heed revenge’s reason
Ask Jesus to lead the way

Ask Him to help you be meeker
Than the one who hurt you so
Not to be a vengeance-seeker
Or to return blow for blow

Jesus bore false accusation
But He answered not a word
Lift your heart of hurt to Heaven
Let love heal what hatred stirred

Let love suffer long, my precious
Forgiveness heals evil’s ills
Let love counter words malicious
With the love Jesus instills

Lift your heart of hurt to Heaven
All we suffer, so did He
Praise Him for our sins forgiven
And thank Him for Calvary
