Pure Delight

1 John 2: 15-17
Do not love the world or anything in the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh,
the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—
is not from the Father but from the world.
  17The world is passing away, along with its desires;
but whoever does the will of God remains forever.

Col.3:1
If then you were raised with Christ,
seek those things which are above,
where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.

When it comes to 'stuff' much wants more,
and yet is never satisfied!
When it comes to the things of God He has enough
to satisfy all of us for all eternity!
No need to want what the other one has
(unlike two little boys playing with tractors! 😅💓)

Love brings no satisfaction to devotion and delight
If its primal attraction is to seek and serve by sight
If what we long and strive for here, is temporal at best
If fulfillment we live for, dear, is not Supremely blessed

…by He who made and loves us and who knows us, heart and soul
Who placed within the glove of us a Faith-in-Him shaped hole
A love-the-Lord-thy-God-with-all-thy-heart-soul-strength-and-mind
-abyss; that, though we gain the world, we are Heaven-designed

And thus, to find true happiness, true hope, joy, peace and love
We first must pursue righteousness/godliness and seek Those Things Above
With uttermost humility and thankfulness, and then
We will find more delight than we thought possible. Amen

Crucial Consideration

Earth's annual flower-carousel has begun to twirl...
and, our days are like the flowers...
a brief bloom at best!

For, “All flesh is like grass,
and all its glory like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,

Considering that you and I
Are here for such a little bit
It behooves all of us to try
To make the very most of it

To do the very best we can
To honor God with word and deed
To truly love our fellowman
And not to want more than we need

©Janet Martin

Ps.103:15-18
As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16For the wind passes over it, and it is [b]gone,
And its place remembers it no more.
17But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children’s children,
18To such as keep His covenant,
And to those who remember His commandments to do them.

Before It Is Too Late

Because death forgets no one,
today's post is an earnest and urgent beckoning
because of a reckoning none will escape...

Luke 15:4-7
“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them,
does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness,
and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?
5And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors,
saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’
7I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven
over one sinner who repents
than over ninety-nine [b]just persons who need no repentance.

On his deathbed the other week, my sister-in-law's brother put his faith in Jesus
before, at 51 years of age, he passed from time into eternity.
Praise the Lord! He did not dismiss the window of opportunity still open,
 to repent and believe!
Death forever closes the window of every opportunity
but ultimately the opportunity to receive the gift of salvation!
Sometimes death comes too suddenly to call upon God's name,
so then, we should prepare to meet God today!
God, who so loved us He gave His Son as the final sacrifice for sin because
'without shedding of blood is no remission/forgiveness. Heb.9:22

Matt.24:43-44
But know this, that if the master of the house had known
what [a]hour the thief would come,
he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
44 Therefore you also be ready,
for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

What can be sadder than to be Almost Persuaded?!
Acts 26:28 NKJV
Then Agrippa said to Paul,
“You almost persuade me to become a Christian.”

Death stops us in our tracks,
In leaps of faith, mid-prayer/air
It accomplishes hope’s climax
Or eternal despair

It adjourns highs and lows
When death lowers its bar
It executes life’s curtain-close
No matter who we are

It strips the soul’s veneer
(Pray we prepare to meet

It lurks in every breath
In every step we take
We live in the shadow of death
Eternity at stake

Between Will Be and Was
God’s grace unfurls Time’s mast
And grants what none should waste, because
Today could be our last

Salvation, none can earn
Saves us from sin's dire fate
Because, Death waits at every turn
Who can afford to wait

All who believe, death cannot claim
For Christ conquered the grave

Therefore, though death is sure
We need not dread its scythe
All who believe, God holds secure
In everlasting life

Then pray, do not delay
To make repentance true
Because maybe this very day
Death will take me or you

Then, hearken/listen unto He
Who gave Himself to set us free
From death's unyielding claim

Before it is too late
(for death forgets no one)
Through Jesus Christ, God's Son

Isa. 51:5-6
My righteousness is near,
My salvation has gone forth,
And My arms will judge the peoples;
The coastlands will wait upon Me,
And on My arm they will trust.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens,
And look on the earth beneath.
For the heavens will vanish away like smoke,
The earth will grow old like a garment,
And those who dwell in it will die in like manner;
But My salvation will be forever,
And My righteousness will not be [b]abolished.

Titus 2:11-14
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing
of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
14 who gave Himself for us,
that He might redeem us from every lawless deed
and purify for Himself His own special people,
 zealous for good works.

If The Lord Wills...

Today's devotion, so very fitting for we who are mourning once again!

Our church family is reeling again with the blow
of another sudden loss of one of our family.
Cliff Martin was a friend to my husband, (and me)
both of them life-long truck drivers.
Yesterday morning, for reasons still unknown
Cliff's truck rolled over and he lost his life.
Our hearts are broken for his family
as we lift them to our loving Heavenly Father in prayer.
Will you pray too?

Ps.23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

James 4:13-15
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city,
spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.”
14You do not even know what will happen tomorrow!
 What is your life?
You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

15Instead, you ought to say,
“If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.”

(The above verses, since my sister Lucy's sudden death last Sept.
are imprinted on my heart with
every plan I make!!)

If the Lord wills, we will do this or that today. Amen
What peace this precept brings as we face life’s unknowns again
God gives and takes away; life’s day-to-day time’s fleeting nod
Before we go the way of ‘dust-to-dust-and-soul-to-God’

If the Lord wills, we will go here or there today. Amen
We cannot see beyond the very moment we are in
But He who knows our numbered days before one came to be
Unfurls the goodness of His grace for all humanity

To all who trust in Him, He satisfies faith’s deepest needs
The vastness of His mercy thought’s comprehension exceeds
He is with us; He comforts us as we pray once again
‘If the Lord wills, we will do this or that today. Amen’

Aubade (and a prayer request)

When we receive the gift of salvation and become children of God,
we also 'inherit' the call of The Great Commission;

Matt.28:18-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said,
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Ps.119:4-6
4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
6 Then shall I not be ashamed,
when I have respect unto all thy commandments.

***
In light of the verses above
what a sacred unfurling then, is each new day!

A new day melts the dark; duty's charge hails anew
Therefore, once more, before embarking on 'so much to to'
My soul is stirred to reach to touch Mercy's return
The Giver has so much to teach and I so much to learn

A new day fills the air where unplumbed moments span
*Praise God who hears my/our humble prayer and works His perfect plan
My soul is stirred to bow, beneath the Verge of Choice
Lest, in the heat of Want, somehow I miss His still, small Voice

A new day meets our gaze; a fresh wave of Unknown
To tutor us in Thoughts and Ways much higher than our own
My soul is stirred to sing; come joy or sorrow's lot
Beneath the shelter of His Wing the child of God is taught

Janet Martin

*One of my prayers is for my sister-in-law, Karen,
back in the hospital due to bleeding, after an emergency
hip replacement two weeks ago.
Would you join  in praying for her encouragement and healing?

Below, a few of yesterday's 'gifts' 💓

A flock of blue jays descended and chattered as they foraged for
a few minutes then flew on...

Spring-wonder

Spring, and esp. May, seems to ignite wonder at every turn!
below, a few wonder-frames which helped to kindle today's poem...

Wonder erects joy’s palaces in hidden landscapes of the heart
It spills from tulip chalices to thrill spectators with God-art...

In blossom-dappled masterpieces freely and profusely flung/hung
Where His handiwork never ceases to amaze both old and young...

Spring-wonder winds its way through smiles, like meadow-brooks meandering
Earth’s first burst of green-kindled isles replenishes hope’s eagle-wing
As gossamer-gold filigree weaves halos through lackluster limbs
Earth’s beauty spills abundantly from nature’s pockets, full of hymns

Wonder erects joy’s palaces in hidden landscapes of the heart
It spills from tulip chalices to thrill spectators with God-art
What meets the eye oft floods the soul with happiness no ink can tame
It triumphs winter’s weary toll with spring’s unfailing claims to fame

Wonder awakens gratefulness for spring’s return perfectly-timed
Praise God, whose loving faithfulness is evidenced in buds, bloom-primed
In blossom-dappled masterpieces freely and profusely flung/hung
Where His handiwork never ceases to amaze both old and young

The Composer of roses rouses us to slow our hasty stride
He bids us pause, then sweetly wows us with spring-mantled countryside
Wonder transcends thought’s plumbed dimensions; worship authors purest praise
As God captures our attention in grandest, minutest ways

We are too quickly prone to grumble; prone to fear, to doubt and fret
Till wonder makes us truly humble; if but for a micro-sec
When caught off guard by preaching flowers, bowers rich with bird and leaf
As the Maestro of sun and showers reminds us whose laws are chief

For Preciousness of Souls...

Happy Almost Mid-May!!

Once more the day the Lord has made extends the goodness of God’s grace...

We never know what a day holds!
We will never know the ways of God, save this;
all things work together for good to those who love Him
and are called according to His purpose. (Rom.8:28)
All things!
though disappointments crush,
though sorrows roll,
though disobedience appears to flourish,
though faith is tested,
though many prayers seem to go unanswered,
though cares groan in our mortal tent
God is working these things together for good
to those who truly, utterly love Him
and are earnestly seeking to serve God's purposes
rather than desires of the human heart.
and until faith reaches the place where we are willing
to place our dearly-beloved Isaacs on the altar of sacrifice,
trusting God's holy and righteous love/will above all,
we struggle and fall,
because we are born with a rebellious nature,
and thought that errs!
God's purpose calls us, not to be true to ourselves,
but true to Him!

2 Cor.5:9-11&14-15
Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent,
to be well pleasing to Him.
10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
that each one may receive the things done in the body,
according to what he has done,
whether good or bad.
11Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord,
we persuade men; but we are well known to God,
and I also trust are well known in your consciences...

14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus:
that if One died for all, then all died; 15and He died for all,
that those who live should live no longer for themselves,
but for Him who died for them and rose again.

2 Pet.3:8-9
But, beloved, do not forget this one thing,
that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years,
and a thousand years as one day.
9The Lord is not slack concerning His promise,
as some count slackness,
but is longsuffering toward [c]us,
not willing that any should perish
but that all should come to repentance.

(I really wanted to write about mothers and tots,
my family, spring beauty, friends and so much that has confounded delight recently,
and maybe I still will, but the sacred Source of awe and purpose
seemed to sound a more solemn note to start a new week! )

***

Once more the preciousness of souls compels all who believe to pray
Because the holiest of goals approaches with each passing day
This transient tent of skin and bone is but Immortality’s cloak
A dwelling place in which we groan, while should'ring love’s compelling yoke

The human heart is full of schemes to serve the part/art that eyes behold
Tossed to and fro by ‘that which seems’ rather than what God’s word has told
Not how one talks but how one walks bears witness to faith’s diligence
Beware of subtle stumbling blocks dressed in kind disobedience

Study ‘the way that seemeth right’, lest it is filled with compromise
Lest first impressions of delight tempt us with ‘you will become wise’
Lest, in the garden of today, we fall prey to temptation’s vice
Enticed by ‘did God really say?’ rather than humble sacrifice

Once more the day the Lord has made extends the goodness of God’s grace
The example, when Christ obeyed still guides the whole of human race
Faultless and faithful to the end, He bore, for preciousness of souls
The death of convicts, to defend, nay, break the curse where darkness rolls

This Tent is more than food and clothes; time’s flicker, no mean, cosmic whim
The cross, love’s proof that God first chose to save all who believe in Him
Then pray, for preciousness of souls, we take up love’s cross for His sake
Because the holiest of goals approaches, with each breath we take

Lyrics by Elisha Hoffman-1839-1929

1 You have longed for sweet peace,
And for faith to increase,
And have earnestly, fervently prayed.
But you cannot have rest,
Or be perfectly blest,
Until all on the altar is laid.

Refrain:
Is your all on the altar of sacrifice laid?
Your heart does the Spirit control?
You can only be blest,
And have peace and sweet rest,
As you yield Him your body and soul.

2 Would you walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
And have peace and contentment alway?
You must do His sweet will
To be free from all ill–
On the altar your all you must lay. [Refrain]

3 Oh, we never can know
What the Lord will bestow
Of the blessings for which we have prayed,
Till our body and soul
He doth fully control,
And our all on the altar is laid. [Refrain]

4 Who can tell all the love
He will send from above,
And how happy our hearts will be made,
Of the fellowship sweet
We shall share at His feet
When our all on the altar is laid! [Refrain]

Spiritual Reveille

Reveille: 1. : a signal to get up mornings.
 2. : a bugle call at about sunrise signaling the first military formation of the day.

Getting up every morning is not for the faint of heart,
but being properly equipped is the key to success!

And behold, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you.
But remain in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit
is given for the common good.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear,
but of power, love, and self-control.

Without God's Spirit within,
without His word hidden in our hearts
so we do not sin against Him, (Ps.119:11)
how often we would fall prey to sight
rather than walking/living by faith.
How often we would make choices
based on logic deduced from a human standpoint
rather than simply *obeying God
and trusting Him for the consequences.

God gifts us with abilities to use for His purposes and glory!
May that be our whole-sole-soul goal today!

Wishing you a day filled with joy only His Spirit can instill,
as we trust He who is able in all circumstances!

Without His Spirit it is impossible for us to do well
in life's greatest callings,
such as training up a child in the way they should go...

Come, all who love and fear the Lord, with holy hunger pray
To be a suit of working clothes His Spirit wears today
To be a vessel filled with Light no circumstance can dim
To be, in humble human form a glorious glimpse of Him

Come, all who seek and trust the Lord, believing in his Word
Pour out your heart in earnest prayer for all who have not heard
Who do not comprehend the Light that shines into the dark
Who, like in days of Noah, scorn the safety of faith’s Ark

Come, all who follow and obey the Lord; do not despair
But be the hands and feet of He who keeps us in His care
Put on His suit of armour, like a soldier who prepares
To head into a battlefield suffused with deadly snares

Come, all who love and fear the Lord, with worship’s yielded awe
For purposes infallible; for timing without flaw
For His glory and by his grace, with holy hunger pray
Then be the suit of working clothes His Spirit wears today

2 Tim.2:3
You therefore must endure[a] hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:3
Are you so foolish? After starting in the Spirit,
are you now finishing in the flesh?

I ask that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you
with power through His Spirit in your inner being,

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

Romans 8:9
You, however, are controlled not by the flesh, but by the Spirit,
if the Spirit of God lives in you.
And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,
he does not belong to Christ.

You can't 'work out' disobediences to God.
It doesn't work!
-Charles Stanley from the message HERE
