Enough...A Prayer

Once more, mercy, new every morn
To we, of creature-plea
Sustains us till our souls are borne
Beyond the part we see
For all eternity

This morn, dear Lord I ask Thee not That I should understand Thy ways
Or decipher Thy higher thought, but trust in Thee and sing Thy praise

I ask Thee not for paths of ease, but lead me with Thy love so true
To wonders, veiled in agonies, when nothing but Thy Word will do

I ask thee not for wealth or fame; these are the pride of worldly want
Help me to glory in Thy name to shield me from deception’s taunt

Dear Lord, this morn I do not ask for more than Thy unfailing Hand
To hone, through commonest of task the holiness of Thy command

I ask Thee, Lord, for awe unplumbed as I think about Calvary
Forbid my heart is ever numbed to Thy great sacrifice for me

But, through the highs and lows of life, bid I praise Thee from morn to morn
And taste the mercies that run rife, though thou wast pierced with sword and thorn

Enduring hatred’s heinous blows, suffering even unto death
Yet, crushing death as You arose, my Lord, Giver of every breath

Maker and Ruler of all things, and captain of Salvation too
Lord, baptize my desires in springs where nothing but Thy Word will do

This morn, Lord, with joy undeterred, help me take up love’s cross anew
Knowing hope anchored in Thy Word will be enough to see me through

Amen

Today's poem was inspired in part by this morning's reading...

Heb 2:8-10
Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet.
For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him.
But now we see not yet all things put under him.

9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death,
 crowned with glory and honour;
that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

10For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things,
in bringing many sons unto glory,
to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings....

Today's prayer was also drawn in part
from hope's awe as I pondered
 the sacred taking up of
our cross each new morn, to follow Him

Matt.16:24
Then Jesus said to his disciples,
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves
and take up their cross and follow me.

A Rare and Gleaming God-send; Today

Wild flowers drive wonder wild with worship...
or, is it worship wild with wonder??

Thank-you, thank-you!!
Dear God and dear property-owner 💖🙏

On my way home from lunch with my mother-in-law today
I stopped at this field, which I glimpsed as we 'flew' by yesterday...

Nothing can steal the thunder of wonder awakened by
God’s word and handiwork bursting with earnest ‘Here AM I’

A rare and gleaming God-send rends the air and wends its way
To where we are to raise the bar of recompense's prey
Where what is past is cast in Bygone’s everlasting wake
Where every morn mercy reborn grants every breath we take
Where beckoning, response and reckoning subtly become
Without a shadow of a doubt, a lifetime’s sacred sum

Ah, what more can we ask for than the anchor of the soul
Than God’s unreserved fervency of love enough for all
Than knowing He is able; faith’s foothold stable, secure
In awesome promises He gave to stave the Tempter’s lure
He leads us, not into temptation but to holiness
Guiding the meek and seeking into paths of righteousness

Nothing can steal the thunder of wonder awakened by
God’s word and handiwork bursting with earnest ‘Here AM I’
God, give us ears to hear till it is You for which we yearn
And it is You that others see through faith’s humble return
Where a great cloud of witnesses lavishes sky and sod
And we, once proud have bowed in eternal worship to God

A rare and gleaming God-send rends the air and wends its way
To where we are; let’s raise the bar of recompense Today
For, what is past is cast in Bygone’s everlasting wake
But, every morn mercy reborn grants every breath we take
Where beckoning, response and reckoning subtly become
Without a shadow of a doubt, true worship’s sacred sum

Yesterday our worship service was opened with Psalm 89

Here are a few glorious excerpts-

11 The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth;
you founded the world and all that is in it...

14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
love and faithfulness go before you.
15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, Lord.
16 They rejoice in your name all day long;
    they celebrate your righteousness.
17 For you are their glory and strength,
and by your favor you exalt our horn.[d]
18 Indeed, our shield[e] belongs to the Lord,
our king to the Holy One of Israel.
