Awesome Anticipation...

Though this poem was inspired by daybreak it applies to every breath and step we take...

As the sun rose I was impacted by the profound realization of
One Day Nearer...

One day nearer to the coming
Of our Lord; and what will be
One day nearer to our going
From time to eternity
One day nearer to beholding
He who saves us by His grace
Each new daybreak is unfolding
One day nearer to His face
And the sacred understanding
Of all that we cannot tell
When the Truth will be unending
In either Heaven or hell

One day nearer to departure
From this world of toil and strife
From the woes of war and hunger
And the cares of love and life
From the hope of our salvation
To faith’s armor laid to rest
From the cross of tribulation
To the crown of righteousness
From this temporary running
To the everlasting Prize
When at last we shed the garment
Of faith’s living sacrifice

One day nearer to the hour
Of reckoning and reward
For man’s days are like a flower
One day nearer to forever
Ere the silver cord is severed
And all but God falls away
One day nearer to the Awesome
Crossing of faith’s Finish Line
…the last petal of the blossom
Caught in nail-scarred hands, divine

2 Tim.4:8
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:
and not to me only,
but unto all them also that love his appearing.

1 Thess.5:1-10
Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you.
2For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
3While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly,
like labor pains on a pregnant woman,
and they will not escape.
4But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief.
  5For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day;
we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
6So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober.
7For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober,
putting on the breastplate of faith and love,
and the helmet of our hope of salvation.
9For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath,
but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
10He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep,
we may live together with Him.
11Therefore encourage and build one another up,
just as you are already doing.

Our Single Boast

 Jeremiah 9:23-24

This is what the LORD says:
"Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom,
nor the strong man in his strength,
nor the wealthy man in his riches.
But let him who boasts boast in this,
that he understands and knows Me,
that I am the LORD, who exercises loving devotion,
justice and righteousness on the earth--
for I delight in these things," declares the LORD.

I Will Boast (only in the cross)

The only goodness we can boast about or claim or laud
Is possible and only, always about and from God

The evil that exists is from the subtil serpent, pride
It mocks the Rock of Christendom; Jesus Christ crucified

…and resurrected. Victorious over death and hell
The only goodness we can boast is God’s great love to tell

Because God, rich in mercy gave His Son to pay sin's debt
God’s goodness is our single boast; oh, may we ne’er forget

© Janet Martin

Evil people are evil because they do not have/know Jesus.
Evil leaders are evil because they fail to recognize their Leader
and the one who loves them and would forgive them if they repented
and believed on He who gives everlasting life and Heaven
in place of death and hell.
Let's pray that the love of God would become a reality to our godless leaders
and everyone who does not know the truth that sets us free

Sometimes, In This Present Culture

The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him-
-the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and strength,
the Spirit of knowledge
and fear of the LORD.

(this verse below fills my heart and prayers these day...)
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit f of wisdom and revelation,
so that you may know him better.
18I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened
in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you,
the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,
19and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

If we want something to grow we feed it.
What is fed will grow...
Spiritual growth or the hunger for spiritual blessing
happens as we feed on 'spiritual bread'!
John 6:35
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me will never go hungry,
and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Sometimes in this present culture
We could fall prey to despair
Where evil is like a vulture
And people don't seem to care
Or fall before God in prayer

Present culture's satisfaction
Fosters lies and unbelief
 Numbed by cyberspace-distraction
The god of opinion, chief
Dumb to God in heaven's grief

Seems as if Spiritual Blessing
Is a treasure few esteem
Focused rather on possessing
Fortunes, fickle as a dream
While eternal riches stream

Seems as if mankind's redemption
 Purchased through God's only Son
Is the bull's eye of rejection
Though He died for everyone
Though He cried 'Thy will be done'

...to bring many sons to glory!
To lay down hope's solid rock
Seems as if God's Great Love story
Has become a laughing stock
Culture hails the stumbling block

Fearless in the face of Mercy
Fearless, though death and hell wait
Scorning Christ with jeers and curses
Or with doubt's fruitless debate
Fearless in their dire state/strait

Blinded by the tempter's logic
Lured by sight's defeated stride
Seems this present culture's rock is
But the shifting sands of pride
Or the boast of God denied

Seems as if Spiritual Blessing
Is an odd and foreign phrase
Not a treasure worth confessing
And pursuing all our days
By denying self-bent ways

Seems as if the fickle aweing
Of excess, not sacrifice
Veils the subtle serpent drawing
The attention from the price
With enticements, 'fun' and 'nice'

Seems as if this present culture
Does not grasp the sacred Thence
Of heaven or hell, of judgement
And the certain recompense
Of the soul's inheritance

Seems as if 'riches in glory'
Falls on head-phone deafened ears
And the grace of God's love story
Is met with hate's bold-faced sneers
Or Indifference-Veneers

As if the best we inherit
Is Something gold-silver-pearled
And as if life's Crowning Merit
Is This Fleeting Warp unfurled
Not riches beyond this world

Sometimes, in this present culture
Love weeps beneath faith's scorned cross
Hell's lord is a gilded vulture
Heaven's God tests us with loss
 And prayer's groaning albatross

God, open Faith's eyes within us
Tune us to truth's cunning foes
You are not slack in Your promise
Of wealth time cannot disclose
Of inheritance You chose

© Janet Martin

Psalm 47:4
He chooses our inheritance for us,
the pride of Jacob, whom He loves.
Selah

1 Pet.1:3-5
A Heavenly Inheritance
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4to an inheritance [b]incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away,
reserved in heaven for you,
5who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation
ready to be revealed in the last time.

Anguish...

Dear Believer, does your heart too, break for the lost and the cost of unbelief?
Do you weep for those who sleep in the darkness of sin?
Do you mourn for those not yet born again?
Do you pray
And pray
And pray?!

What script of desolation spills like ink-demonic seas
When naught but human logic fills thought’s godless theories
What darkness over darkness rolls without the light of Truth
How doleful daybreak's bower tolls, how hopeless is youth’s youth
Without the faith that rends the veil
And trusts the love that cannot fail

What fathoms of futility soon lie in wanton waste
What claim to shame’s depravity tunes knowledge, mortal-based
What agonizing anguish rings beyond time’s transient bar
When fullness of rejection flings the gates of hell ajar
When, without faith that makes us whole
Denial faces Deathless Soul

What weight of sorrow sears the prayer that reaches Mercy’s ears
As groan on groan beyond compare beseeches, tears on tears
Because the love and truth of God, by some, is thought a sham
No reverence, no fear, no laud for salvation’s I AM
Where without He who justifies
Hell claims the soul that never dies

What Gethsemane-like appeal should bleed from prayer on prayer
What throes of love should bid us kneel, love’s pleading cross to bear
For what good is the best laid plan unfurled if its sad goal
Is but the wink-span of the world in exchange for the soul
Where nothing, when Last Breath is spent
Can comfort Unbelief’s Lament

© Janet Martin

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life.
Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.

Prov.14:26-27

He who fears the LORD is secure in confidence,
and his children shall have a place of refuge.

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life,
turning a man from the snares of death.

Let's Live Today In Such A Way (as if we could die of a heart attack)

Jim didn't know his out-of-the-blue-question last night
(after we had ceased chatting for a little while and I was snoozing
between pages of the book The Gauntlet
would spark today's poem.
He suddenly asked 'what if tomorrow is the day when people say
'did you hear?!! Jim died of a heart attack today!'
Maybe you're laughing a little but...
It's not an impossibility for any one of us
and perhaps a prudent/valid question to contemplate before
' the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.'

Remember Him before the silver cord is snapped
and the golden bowl is crushed,
before the pitcher is shattered at the spring
and the wheel is broken at the well,
7before the dust returns to the ground from which it came
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

Why does it matter so much?!
Because the soul is deathless with only one of two destinations
depending on the preparation we have made!
Salvation-heaven
Rejection-hell

I can't even remember if or what I answered
but Jim's last words last night set the tone for my first thoughts this morning!
And inspired today's poem🙏💗

Take time to thoroughly appreciate life's simple, temporary joys
but first, address soul-sacred Eternity

(Grandson checking out gramma's birthday espresso)

My sister's grand-daughter pulled a goofy face just as I clicked😂

To live today in such a way, that it could be our last
Transforms our sighs and what we prize where morning hoists its mast
For none can tell how near farewell draws its finality
As we embark toward that mark, we know but cannot see

To live today as if we may not have another, wakes
A sacred sense of recompense in every breath one takes
And stirs us to a humbler view of time’s momentous fount
moments become the holy sum of which we give account

To live today as if to say ‘thank-you’ to God, who grants
Its gift of grace, each lovely face we kiss, each ‘second chance’
Will help us weave the steps we leave behind into a prayer
For those still in the thick and thin of love and living’s care

To live today in such a way will beckon us to be
More mindful of the thinning glove that cups eternity
How sweet the flask that metes the task for loved ones near and dear
How fleet the feet that rush to greet the mists of yesteryear

Where sorrows surge and morrows merge with splurge of seasons spent
This is the toll that weans the Soul from mortal filament
Pray, let’s be kind and keep in mind what lies beyond yon past
And live today in such way, that it could be our last
And live today as if to say ‘I love you, you, and You’
And live today as if we may meet God when it is through

© Janet Martin

I remember wise words spoken by my dad years ago...
"live in such a way that if God told you today or tomorrow you will die,
you would carry on exactly as you would otherwise have.
Live life always ready to meet God!

Eccles.3:11
He has made everything beautiful in its time.
Also He has put eternity in their hearts,
except that no one can find out the work
that God does from beginning to end.

Heb.9:27-28
Just as man is appointed to die once, and after that to face judgment,
28so also Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many;
and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin,
but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await Him.

She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus,
because He will save His people from their sins."

Acts 4:12
Salvation is found in no one else,
for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind
by which we must be saved.”

Acts 16:30-34
Then he brought them out and asked,
“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved,
you and your household.”
32Then Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord
to him and to everyone in his house.
33At that hour of the night, the jailer took them
and washed their wounds.
And without delay, he and all his household were baptized
. 34Then he brought them into his home and set a meal before them.
So he and all his household rejoiced
that they had come to believe in God.

Earth's Exhibition of Glimpses...

Hate, war, sickness, sorrow,
greed, pain, apathy,
hearts hardened against God,
could destroy all hope of  present joy
but for the hope of the home of the soul
and the greatness of He within we who believe
so much greater than he that is in the world!

We cherish each gift of present joy
(like a foreshadowing of eternal joy)
 to balance love's ever-present sorrow)

My daughter just sent me the above photo of big brother's
good morning kisses to baby brother.
(and I weep as I pray for the families afflicted by war)

Earth's beauty (be it babies, birds or blooms)
 without Heaven's hope is futile.

Birds continue to delight...today,
a very rare and special visitor, a bluebird/indigo bunting?

...and goldfinch

...and our resident downy or hairy woodpecker (absent for a while)

we are still thrilling to see the orioles
(sometimes our place seems to just be a pitstop on their way)

and a mediocre shot of a rose-breasted grosbeak
who eats his supper each evening around the same time we do

Chipping sparrow...

Song Sparrow...

mourning doves...

We rejoice to receive a much-needed rain!

The beauty of the earth exhibits Heaven’s Majesty
The work and word of God is man’s Supreme Authority
Nothing exists but what His favor fashions and allows
Surely at the sheer thought of this our haughty boasting bows

…Faith looks toward a rich reward beyond kingdoms of dust
Bestowed by He who shed His crown and gave His life for us
And wove Redemption’s royal robes with love’s bloodstreams outpoured
Not from goats, rams and bullocks but from Jesus Christ our Lord

There is no common cure for hearts hardened against God’s grace
Against the loving kindness of Jesus who took our place
Though sinless, to become sin’s sacrifice once and for all
The King of kings shed His own blood; no common animal

Sweet consolation for life’s tribulation, who could find
Without the goodness of God who is faithful, just and kind
Without hearts softened as belief begets wonder and joy
Without His promises that no enemy can destroy

Each desperate heart-cry would be too much to bear, but for
Faith’s hope, after salvation opens eyes to so much more
Where earth’s beauty exhibits but a small glimpse of the whole
As we press on until we see the Saviour of the soul

...until we behold He who held us through the storm and strife
Until once and forevermore we pass through death to life
Until The One to whom we pray and pray and pray and pray
Unveils His face, where, by His grace, all tears are wiped away

© Janet Martin

Heb.4:11-13
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest,
so that no one will fall by following the same pattern of disobedience.
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight;
everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him
to whom we must give account.…

How Precious Is The Fountain

Easter is not a season we celebrate
but love's reason to rejoice and celebrate every day eternally🎝🎜🙌

 1 Pet. 1:18-21

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold
that you were redeemed from the empty way of life
handed down to you from your ancestors,
but with the precious blood of Christ,
a lamb without blemish or defect.
He was chosen before the creation of the world,
but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
Through him you believe in God,
who raised him from the dead and glorified him,
and so your faith and hope are in God.

How precious is the fountain filled with everlasting life
The lifeblood of our Saviour spilled where pardon still runs rife
Where not just once but constantly awe draws us to the place
That sets the sorry sinner free with love’s redeeming grace
To gaze upon Mangled Perfection with beholden breath
And praise God for the resurrection that overcame death

How precious is the fountain, not of water but of blood
Where we are drawn so often just to marvel at its flood
And wash in torrents that atone, where joy and sorrow meld
In worship, as we weep and groan through trials not withheld
Where we are more than conquerors, through He who loves us so
The anchor of hope not authored by what we see, but know

How precious is the fountain that streams from Calvary’s cross
Where faith can remove mountains if we count all but Christ loss
'Dear Lord have mercy, I believe, now help mine unbelief
Make the reward faith will receive, desire’s earnest chief'
As we press on victor'ous, through the precious blood of Christ
May the joy set before us make sweet every sacrifice

So When Death's Solemn Shadows Fall

Heb.10:26-31
The Just Live by Faith...
26For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth,
there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment,
and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.
28Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law
dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy
who has trampled the Son of God underfoot,
counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing,
and insulted the Spirit of grace?
30For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” [g]says the Lord.
And again, “The Lord will judge His people.”
31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Psalm 16:11
You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

How holy swells the wellspring where Time’s finite fathoms toll
Each breath subtly unraveling the mantle ‘round the soul
How fragile is the fleeting glove of man’s mortality
Where He who wove us with His love instilled eternity

…so when this little life is through, if we believe in Him
Death will be but the doorway to the place where pleasures brim
As all our tears are wiped away forevermore by He
Who stepped from Heaven’s throne to pay sin’s debt in agony

So when Death’s solemn shadows fall no terror fills its wave
Unless, still we refuse to call on He, mighty to save
Unless because of unbelief, pride scorned the blood grace spilled
And wakes to the eternal grief of rejection fulfilled

To all He pleads, come unto Me, sin's sentence to atone
Salvation for humanity is found in Christ alone
Where, Holy God's mercy unfolds another day of grace
Until faith's fulfillment beholds the glory of His face

How holy swells the spring where Love's infinite fathoms roll
Each breath softly unraveling the glove that veils the goal
Pray, when Death's solemn shadows fall beneath the Reaper's knife
Tis but the the Saviour's tender call to everlasting life

Isa.53:4-5
Surely He has borne our [g]griefs
And carried our [h]sorrows;
Yet we [i]esteemed Him stricken,
[j]Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5But He was wounded[k] for our transgressions,
He was [l]bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes[m] we are healed.

How To Know What Love Is...

1 John 3:16-20

This is how we know what love is:
Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.
And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need
but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth
and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence:
20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts,
and he knows everything.

(version 1)

When through ancient age/page we travel
When our hearts are wholly gripped
As we trace and humbly marvel
And embrace redemption’s script
As the grace that wrought salvation
Stuns us with love’s magnitude
Mercy’s divine transformation
Turns despair to gratitude

Draws the heart, no longer hardened
(Though this world with horrors groans)
To the cross where sin is pardoned
To the One whose death atones
All who come without excuses
All who repent and believe
Not one sinner, He refuses
His forgiveness to receive

Look! Behold Hope’s holy horror
At Love’s body, bathed in blood
At the Healer’s Hands, nail-burrowed
From Him spews redemption’s flood
Hark! He cries, by all forsaken
Behold! Now He bows His head
Look! He dies, the skies are shaken
As the graves give up their dead

But Death was a fated rival
I AM no grave could constrain
Jesus Christ arose triumphal
Over sin and death; amen
This is how we know what love is
Jesus Christ laid down his life
Love does not forget its promise
Wrought through Heaven's sacrifice

This is joy; to be forgiven
Love's broken body, life’s bread
Where, still through all earth from Heaven
Runs redemption’s scarlet thread
This is hope’s unflinching anchor
Though time’s troubled tempests roll
Hallelujah what a Savior
This is faith that makes us whole
Hallelujah, what a Savior
Jesus, Savior of the soul

This Is Love's Power and Glory

To the Christian the power of God;
His Word that in the beginning created the heavens and the earth,
His love that brought salvation to the world,
His Son who suffered our sin's penalty,
are first thoughts that come to mind when hearing the word 'power'!

For I am not ashamed of the gospel,
because it is the power of God
that brings salvation to everyone who believes:
first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

The Power of the Cross-Keith and Kristyn Getty

Death could not subjugate Life Everlasting
Hatred could never be greater than love
The empty cross was hope’s graphic forecasting
Christ shed the grave like a linen glove

‘"Tetelestai!" "It is finished!" Love’s story
Nothing can thwart; the tomb’s stone could not stay
‘Thine is the kingdom, the power and glory
Forever.' Nothing can take it away

No one can nullify the sinner’s pardon
No one the King of kings can overthrow
After the battle of wills in The Garden
Christ, through submission vanquished hope’s dark foe

Redemption’s scarlet flood flows through the ages
Nothing can abrogate Atonement’s Gift
Though scorn is violent and hate, tenacious
Hope is an anchor that nothing can shift

Though wars unfold horrors, brutal and gory
These are the fulfilling of prophecy
Before the King of Kings appears in glory
To dispel evil in a fiery sea

Death, is the shadow that each breath is casting
Death, though it seems to have the final word
To those whose hope is in Life Everlasting
Know God’s love and justice is undeterred

Love’s hands, through which hatred’s daggers were driven
Love’s brow thorn-torn; Love’s body crucified
Love’s blood, the flood whereby sins are forgiven
This is the love that stripped death of its pride

This is love’s power and glory we honour
Name above all names, Love, mighty to save
This is the power above any other
This is the glory that shatters the grave

Death cannot subjugate Life Everlasting
Hatred will never be greater than love
The empty cross is hope’s symbol, forecasting
Graves that will be shed like a linen glove

Beyond Comprehension (John 3:16)

For today's prompt (the first Two-for-Tuesday prompt of the month),
write a make sense poem and/or don't make sense poem.

You loved the world so much You gave your Son; for none could earn
Enough to pay sin's ransom; what can I give in return?
For whatever I think of in the name of love seems small
Compared to what You gave; sinless, You came and gave Your all

No matter how I ponder it I cannot comprehend
Such height and depth and breadth of love all sinners to defend
The cross you bore, the bloody gore to redeem human race
Defies all explanation except one; amazing grace

...and all that You ask in return, redemption to receive
Is faith to take what none can earn; to repent and believe
Thus, surely it makes sense, in the light of eternity
That I should trust love so immense, that You would die for me

© Janet Martin

John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world;
but that the world through him might be saved.

Unbridled Hallelujah

A hymn of praise to our awesome Creator and Saviour!

Isn't being marveled speechless the best?!!
(as I was yesterday at Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto, Ont. Canada)

Gen.1:20
And God said,
Let the waters bring forth abundantly
the moving creature that hath life...

Whether we are poring over His Wonder-full Word or
witnessing wonders of His Hand,
whether we are weeping for joy as we behold
in our mind's eye, the cross of Calvary
or whether we are wonder-struck,
beholding glimpses of God's majesty in creation...

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
And His greatness is [b]unsearchable.
 Ps.145:3

To the God of creation
Oh, may our honor be
More than mouthed adoration
But heart-humility

To the God of salvation
May our lives confess
With faithful exaltation
Redemption’s righteousness

To God, of earth and Heaven
May worship never cease
Through Him we are forgiven
Christ’s death, our death’s release

To God be all the glory
The beauty of His grace
Will reveal faith’s full story
When death unveils His face

For the God everlasting
Who will make all things known
Hears the cares/prayers we are casting
Before His glorious throne

God is hope's restoration
The Savior of the soul
The healer of all nations
The faith that makes us whole

The joy of the believer
Sin's pardon all may claim
The dread of the deceiver
Who trembles at His name

To Alpha and Omega
The Beginning and End
Universal ecclesia's
Father and faithful Friend

May unbridled devotion
Compose love's fervent lay
Majestic as an ocean
That no shoreline can stay

His goodness and His mercy
Without reserve, run rife
Absolute Supremacy
The Way, The Truth, The Life

Boundless heights and depths thunder
With evidence of He
Who eclipses awed wonder
Who will bend every knee

To God, love’s divine Author
May our devotion brim
All glory, praise and honour
Belongs only to Him

Mortal boast is folly
All we have, He gives
Through God, just and holy
Redeemed Sinner lives

Psalm 145:5
I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty,
And [d]on Your wondrous works.
