Happy Anniversay, Robyn and Emily

A year ago today these two became one...wishing you, Robyn and Emily, many more years of rich blessing from God.

Marriage makes ‘our’ and ‘we’
Instead of ‘my’ and ‘me’
It unites two with this; ‘I do’
And binds them eternally

While we cheer and applaud
And witness vows of love
One sacred kiss signifies this;
A promise sealed by God

Bridegroom and bride, one day
Husband and wife for aye
We pray, God bless with happiness
And love, each come-what-may

A Beautiful Thing...50th Wedding Anniversary Poem

Somewhere between morning and night
And toil and sleep, shadow and sun
Between the give and take of life
A thing of beauty is begun

Love’s vows, pledged in the green of life
Are spoken on a dreamer’s strength
Til death do us part; husband and wife
Only God knows its breadth or length

Somewhere between laughter and song
The trial and tear, the calm, the storm
Somewhere, as year folds over year
A thing of beauty starts to form

Between midnight, breakfast toast crumbs
And suppertime and evening prayers
Love’s vows spoken, untried and young
Are being tempered by life’s cares

As bud slowly exposes bloom
A miracle above man’s power
Ah, so is love; the bride and groom
Must wait to see its fullest flower

But oh, as green gives way to gold
And gold to silver-haloed truth
As vows are more than words extolled
In fanciful day-dreams of youth…

…then we begin to see first-hand
This thing that faithfulness imparts
Of beauty unsurpassed, rare, grand
Not of the flesh, but of the heart

Somewhere within life’s highs and lows
Where two are one in God above
Youth’s bud reveals a perfect rose
The proven beauty of true love

Marriage: It Doesn't Just Happen

To all us married folk I say 'cheers,
May love be so blissfully happy
we forget to count the years'

Does this cute cartoon not say it all?...now on a more serious note:

It doesn’t just happen
Love’s bearing; its bending
Is an earnest diligence
Of careful tending

It doesn’t just happen
Love’s time-tender glow
Is not something earned lightly
In life’s ebb and flow

It doesn’t just happen
Love’s sure testament
Is a shining example
Of commitment

It doesn’t just happen
By negligent living
Love is an action
Of giving, forgiving

It doesn’t just happen
Love’s tried and true grace
Is a gentle reflection
Of God’s face

It doesn’t just happen
But oh, its sweet worth
Is surely the most priceless
Beauty on earth

From my threshold of middle-age marriage I have a sudden fresher and deeper appreciation for these words;

Happy 49th Anniversary, Mom and Dad

Tomorrow is Mom and Dad’s 49th Wedding Anniversary. I am so thankful for their shining example of faithfulness.

May God richly bless you with many more.

Till Death Doth Part (Wedding Anniversary Poem)

Till death doth part, love’s solemn vow
Pledged oft in untried youth
But it reveals endurance now
In silver-haloed truth

Till death doth part, only God sees
Life’s breadth beneath the sun
As hands join in love’s mysteries
Uniting two in One

Will you be faithful, tender, true
In sickness and in health,
To love and cherish all life through
The other to yourself?

No beauty passes love’s refrains
As life proves words once spoken
Midst smiles and tears love’s vow remains
A pure and priceless token

Till death doth part, oh who can know
When love’s vow must surrender?
As one is called upon to go
Thus severing cords so tender

Till death doth part, oh may it be
And never our undoing
Then oh, what joyful victory
Will comfort teardrops flowing

Name and Name, God bless you
We thank-you Father, Mother
For showing love faithful and true
And always, to each other

Till death doth part, love’s solemn vow
Pledged oft in untried youth
But you reveal its beauty now
In silver-haloed truth
