Those 'Little' Things

Don't you just love-LOVE *oven-cleaning day?! NOT!, but...

...it's the payoff that prompts us to scrub-scrub-scrub, right?
*for those who do not own a self-cleaning oven...(I was thinking of trading in this oldie because I couldn't get it clean anymore after choosing not to use those toxic oven-sprays that also seemed to fry the burner. Then a friend told me to try a paste of baking soda and water, spread it on, let it sit for a while and wipe off. It works! only the really black baked on residue required hard scrubbing)
Some Tremclad stove-paint touch-up on the top and yay! there is still some life left in it after all!

So it is with a lot of life's  'little  things'.
It's not the menial Must of it but the hopeful trust of it that keeps us focused on the bigger picture!

We may think it isn’t much
The little bit we give today
But, we don’t see the full-fruit of
Those deeds we do,
Or many words we say

We may think it isn’t much
Those things that we procrastinate
But oh, we never know, my love
If morrow will
Forever be too late

We may think it isn’t much
Touch-taste-pray-trust and try-try-try
But, there is so much more, my dear
Than that which meets
The oft forgetful eye

We may think it isn’t much
Those ‘little things’ that seem so small
But given time we just might find
Perhaps they weren’t
So little after all

  1. You are a magician, Janet! Always in awe of your talents.

Could you share the secret proportions of the magical paste? (I hate oven sprays with a passion, would love to try something different.)

    1. Good morning:) I would LOVE to share this oven-cleaning almost miracle...a little elbow-grease is still required but worth it! I used an old stainless steel scrubber for the tougher parts.

I made a few batches of this: a few heaping tablespoons of soda to approx. 2 teaspoons of water. If it turned too runny I added more soda, to starchy a few drops of water at a time until the consistency was spreadable. My friend let it soak overnight...me, being of the more not-so-patient variety waited approx. 45 min. Well worth the mess created to clean up a mess therewith;-) I hope it works!

    1. Thanks Martin, and wow, cool!! I think watching a man clean the house could be very entertaining though I admit I've never had the chance;-))

  3. My sister taught me that a little dry baking soda on a damp rag will clean stubborn stains on the enamel top stove without scratching it. It also works on stainless (I use it on the waffle iron every so often). You've inspired me to clean my stove...next week.

    1. thank-you for that cleaning tip! you just reminded me I need to wipe my oven out after some coconut dropped into it while toasting it. Victoria chose a Toasted Coconut Chiffon cake for her birthday this year.

I like the next week option for cleaning some things too, until it reaches a certain point;-)
