Of Found Treasure

I found it there beneath the air
All sweet and summer-autumn-tossed
I didn’t think that I could spare
This thing that I thought I had lost

The innocence of sun-beam dance
First lured me to its hiding place
And I was sure midst circumstance
It disappeared without a trace

But out beneath the sighing tree
I found it there and I am glad
Life showed me unexpectedly
The Time I didn’t think I had

I have not really stopped to enjoy the out-of-doors lately. I dash through it and try to snatch beauty-glimpses on my way, but sometimes we need to STOP and find the beauty! Today felt busy, but when the hydro went out I took  time to stop, feel, listen... When I returned to the house I found myself thinking ‘I need to make up for lost time’ and suddenly I realized I felt so nourished, not by the time I lost, but by the time I found!

“The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is.”
C.S. Lewis

“How did it get so late so soon? It's night before it's afternoon. December is here before it's June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?”
Dr. Seuss

“There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want.”
Bill Watterson

  1. Love this poem. I love everything you write, Janet. This one really spoke to me this morning - yesterday I dropped everything (including guilt) and sat in a lounge chair outside for an hour just watching the world. I couldn't believe all the kinds of clouds, and birds, and insects, etc. It felt so good to do "nothing." :-)

  2. That is exactly what I did!(crazy how guilt can bind;)We had a cloudless sky and I have not basked in the sun for a while. It felt so good!...and what I didn't finish will be tackled again today!

  3. I'm SO glad I did this yesterday - today is chilly and gray, not a lounge chair day at all, but a good day to do the unending chores inside. :-)

  4. I baby-sit today and the toddler keeps me running non-stop when he isn't napping:)I'm so glad I did it too and it all evens out in the end. We never know when the nice weather will be done for another season. Thank-you for sharing, Sasha. Have a great week-end.

On a personal note, we just got a call this morning that my dad is in the hospital. He is doing okay, but suffered a mild heart-attack! We really never know what a day has in store, do we? They will keep him there for a few days to run more tests.

  5. So true. We can nearly always make time for life's unexpected pleasures.
