Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Tonight there were two of me inside
...Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Strange tug-of-war like spring-winter-north-south
Laughter and growl juxtaposed in my mouth

Sometimes sweet spring is what I want to say
But out comes the wrath of a wild winter’s day
While family chuckles, quite amused as I toss
Burnt pans to the counter-top, feeling quite cross

Some days are blossoms of violet and rose
Some bear the brunt of our unspoken woes
Two forces battle and we must decide
Between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

I hope if you ask my children someday
Whom I most resembled they’ll be quick to say
‘Mostly Dr. Jekyll, easy-going, good-lookin’
But all Mr. Hyde when she burnt the cookin’…

Trying to have a little fun with more than one failure today;(

There are few things that rile me like burnt cooking and baking so I was ranting at myself as I pulled almost burnt granola bars from the oven after supper. (I was going to take them out mid-supper but of course, forgot all about granola bars as we enjoyed baked chicken, baked-potato wedges, green beans and coleslaw)
I was in the middle of a rant at myself when Matt taps me on the shoulder…’sh-h! here is the phone and I’m not sure who it is!’
Oops!! I switch to ‘hello…oh, hi, how are you doing?’ in my most cheerfullest trying voice and I heard one of the kids say. WOW! Mom’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde!!

The worst part is that I couldn’t tell that person I was raging at myself…this is a lesson for Mother to try to be self-controlled and moderate no matter what…sigh.
…so now we have granola bark instead of granola bars ‘cause they were too hard to cut.

Today’s Saturday muffins are Carrot-raisin-nut. My fav’s.

Dusk Dirge to Moment-surge

This morning I said, Saturday already?! and tonight I wonder where it went so quickly...

Dusk spreads her evening gown
Of blue across the dale
Remnant threads of coral-orange
Tint her fading veil

Upon earth’s solitude
Time opens up a room
Claiming one more day to rest
Forever in its tomb

We cannot altar streams
From whence they come or go
Filament of hopes and dreams
Vibrant in its flow

How silver-ly it rolls
A free and phantom mist
Rushing through our hearts and souls
To moments memory-kissed

Janet~

This Bit of Ordinary

This Saturday's muffins were a bit like today's weather...a little heavy;) but...

Now Saturday slips to the archives like wood-smoke curls to the sky
How motionlessly moments gather daylight into lullaby
I long to carve on time's lintel, something to help me recall
This 'bit of ordinary' tiptoeing down twilight's hall

Surely the table of midnight is spread with a star-sumptuous feast
I am reluctant to go there; ah, Time is a hungry beast
For as I reach to touch the fulcrum from whence it seems moments splay
This 'bit of ordinary' becomes one more yesterday

Yet, I would not trade one tomorrow to return to yesterday's hold
Lest as some past place I borrow I forfeit this brief moment-gold
Saturday slips to the archives; domestic and nondescript art
Still, this 'bit of ordinary' carves a wee place in my heart

Janet~

This is one of those sort of hectic Saturdays where I just quit...a quick day-end mop over the floor and I'll call it clean enough.

...oops! better move it before Melissa gets home or she will be greeted with mop-in-the-face:)

Ink-scapes

Can ink preserve with twist and curve these hours slipping fast?
And can a pen restore again pressed pictures of the past?
We cannot quell the tick-tock swell surging from here to there
Though we may yearn for the return of days that seemed so fair
With ink we grasp and clasp the gasp that shapes Time’s centuries
As echoes waft from thought to jot to ink-shaped memories

Can ink retain the soul-sweet strain of Saturdays in March?
Before the air lowers its stair from midnight’s ether arch
To fold its art into the heart where now we scan the deep
Seeking to save from yester-grave a rare remnant to keep
And can a quill with want and will and bits of poetry
Secure in word a moment stirred by ink-shaped memory?

…of muffin-morn and hope re-born in ordinary things
Of mint-tea noon and dusk full moon and wealth too plain for kings
Of scolding, holding, duty’s beauty filling to the brim
Our little cup that we hold up in gratitude to Him
Can ink preserve with twist and curve love’s tender agony?
And can a quill its essence spill in ink-shaped memory
