Thoughts of Relinquishment

The cold wind strips valiant efforts of optimism
And leaves from the afternoon
As I turn to see longing, etched with regret
In the quiet gaze of deepened blue
But oh, I am not quite ready yet
To relinquish the thought of you
To some chilly evening by the fire
Watching as you dance upon the flame
While memory weeps from darkened spire
Moaning, moaning your name
