Impasse

There is nothing left to say
Though silence pleads and taunts
Heavy, in its folds of gray
And deep un-uttered wants

We know what the other needs
Walls expand and rise
While the moaning silence bleeds
From dull and down-cast eyes

A wall has never just one side
To shut somebody out
We will lock ourselves within
Of this there is no doubt

Silence hangs with empty stare
Its deadened teardrops glisten
Many words once filled the air
But we just did not listen

There is nothing left to say
We think we’ve said it all
The silence rises, cold and gray
And weeps against the wall
