And I Love You

It really doesn’t get much better than this
Night sweeps the earth with tenderness
Last threads of low-light fold into the blue
Wind-ragged meadows are painted with dew
And I love you

We launch our dreams into the night sky
Tearing the seams of sensibility
Abandoning sorrows and grief of the day
Its river slides into the mist-laden bay
And I love you, always

We didn’t ask life to be like this
But when all is accomplished, it is what it is
Silhouettes loom in sudden prominence
Illuminating the sound of poised silence
And love’s consequence

I love the sultry summer night
Almost heaven, but not quite
Moments unravel in whispers of blue
Here on a carpet of daisies and dew
And I love you
